"What? Are you gonna talk to these beasts mano-e-mano?!" Robin normally didn't shout like this. Usually, she was calm and composed, able to fight like it was second nature. It almost was.... Working to slay demons and ghosts every day of her life for the past decade.

But these... These spirits frighten her. And she isn't sure why. Maybe it's their grotesque faces, the way their hair falls out from decaying skulls and scalps. Their funeral clothes tarnished, no longer brilliant white.

It sends an odd feeling through her... Maybe her mother looked like this now, buried beneath the haunted forest earth. But no, she couldn't be... She died without haunting their home...

The wolf shivered. Ultimately, if the strange creature coming to her aid wanted to help, he could... He just had to take initative.

If people had guardian angels, Lydia was uncertain what he was. He'd helped her with the Maitlands but it was to his own means that he'd done so. But that had been nearly two decades ago. Time had changed her. She was more than an adult now. She held an adult mindset -- no longer did she have dreams of flinging herself off of a bridge simply because she'd been upset.

No. She wasn't upset right now. She was angry, furious -- just as he'd said. Fingernails dug into her palm, threatening to draw blood from her own flesh.

He drops it in her popcorn, as if it belongs there, green carapace shiny like an oil slick amongst the buttered yellow kernels, tiny stick legs kicking, trying to find solid ground.

The poor little thing has probably never known in its tiny existence what popcorn is, cannot fathom the brave new world of colors and textures and smells.

Darcy drops the bowl besides her on the couch, with a soft yelp— ruined. The whole bowl.
