Kilgore just wants more reasons to purr.
We have an update about his subcutaneous hemangiosarcoma.
It has been six months since I felt a lump under Kilgore’s jawbone and 5 months since they removed the tumor.
A month ago I felt a small lump in exactly the same spot as the primary tumor that was removed in November. The vet tested it but it was too small to show abnormal cells. The tumor grew over March and came back positive for cancer.
His surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. This time a lymphnode also showed abnormal cells so it will also be removed. Lung xrays were fine and that is one of the reasons we are proceeding with surgery. If cancer had spread to his organs we would not operate.
Right now Kilgore has no symptoms besides the lump I can feel. He is doing his thing and because he is completely himself, we have decided to give us all more time.
In the end, this cancer will be the end. It is very aggressive and not curable. There is not a lot of information about hemangiosarcoma and cats as it is most common in dogs. And it is also more common in spleens and organs and not as a subcutaneous cancer. We were told that the hemangiosarcoma could behave slightly differently than what is known about its progression in dogs but we know that our time with Kilgore will end because of it.
Right now, we love him very much. He is very sweet, and I tell myself that cats live in the moment and in their routines. And that all the moments and all the routines we have with Kilgore have made our lives better.
