- Okay BUT. Ragnor's power rivals Magnus' and he's taken out by a convenient solo demon?? I definitely think the shax demon thing was a ruse to go back into hiding - sent by the spy, sure, but used by Ragnor to fulfil the purpose he wanted. I need to finish my fic about that tbh, might work on it after this episode.

- I do like that Lydia wasn't crushing on Alec like people (Clary 🤭) clearly thought. Just respect, and mutual benefit. ♡

- I do like how Alec telling Jace he's not 'sick' for being caught in a confusing situation - 'and trust me, I know.' - shows how he's come to terms with his own feelings, and stopped feeling quite so much shame. ♡

- Alec so close to an epiphany 😂 'if you follow the rules you'll be fine, that is until a complication arises...' Uh-huh? '...so then you need to get back in there and follow the rules even harder!' 🤦‍♀️ 😂

All the mains are very driven to Do What's Right, amongst their other motives. But they all have really different ideas of what that can or should look like. It's fascinating. I might have to write an extended meta about the main nephilische quartet and how their disparate ideas mesh or clash throughout s1.

- I wrote about this before, but I really like Magnus handing the bow and quiver back as a way to gain trust. A way to show Alec that he wants what's best for him.

Up to and including when 'sure, I'll let Clary turn the Cup in' is followed up by his parabatai immediately scheming to make sure neither Clary nor the Cup get turned in...

- Also fuck the Clave, man, you did NOT interview for NEARLY long enough to justify Soul Sword ALREADY. And you don't have nearly enough probable cause!! What, you found out the forsaken had seelie blood and just arrested the closest seelie to the Institute??

- Magnus is right. Keeping the Cup safe temporarily is a far cry from 'the Clave is actively looking for it and we are going to make sure they can't have it'. It's definitely the point of no return.

(There's also the fact that torture is morally repugnant, and that it doesn't even work, AND that this particular torture is dangerous enough that Meliorn might die... but one step at a time right)

- Ooh. Alec handing the autopsy results to Maryse instead of Lydia was another nice touch I forgot about. Alec's rightfully pissed, but he's not about to throw the Lightwood name further out of power, abandon his family, or play his hand too early.

- Raphael reached out to comfort Clary when she broke down over Simon 🥺 HE IS BEST BOY!!

- I always like fics that touch on the fact that Institutes are normally run by couples. It's an interesting bit of worldbuilding. The fact that a Lightwood-Branwell marriage would put them in such strong contention to run the NYI, compared to if they were just agreeing to be coworkers...

- I forgot the whole 'angel blood to get into the Institute' foreshadowing thing. That was very well done imo.

- SHTV really heard the movie say 'zombies don't exist' and went 'bet' with this not-quite-forsaken's makeup and choreo, didn't they 🤭

- Alec demonstrating why archers are normally ranged attackers 😂
