Tanjiro really did try and hide the injury from her. He'd felt the crack when the demon kicked him, wondering idly if this was how it felt being on the receiving end of one of Nezuko's, sending him blasting back until his back hit the wall. That's about when he felt another two go but he got up and kept fighting anyway. It was his job as the oldest to make sure the job was seen through, injuries be damned. Even when the demon had been beheaded, he opted to try and continue as normal. Get them back to the Butterfly Mansion safe, but of course he had to cringe and it gave the injury away.

"I'm sorry, Nezuko...I just didn't want to worry you." He sat down as she scolded him, an exhale of pain. "Don't worry....! I'll start recovery breathing. It'll help until I get back to the Butterfly Mansion." He took her box off his back for a moment and set it down. Sure, it wasn't needed that much anymore, but just in case she needed to sleep on the way back or hide.

Tanjiro had started to feel under the weather the previous day, a blocked nose impairing his impeccable sense of smell. A headache that pounded the side of his skull stuck with him for the majority of the evening, opting to retire early. That was probably a sign that he really wasn't doing well, earning him a check over from the Insect Hashira herself. Her verdict wasn't one he wanted, already trying to get out of bed and standing on the cool wooden floor. He shivered and tried to sniff, cringing at how blocked it was. Lovely.

It was a genuine question despite knowing the answer he might receive, but it couldn’t hurt to ask when it was them alone. They practically waited for the arrival of Satoru and could conclude this mission of escorting her was complete. He already did his part, but he couldn’t help being somewhat angsty about how long it took for a simple message to be delivered. Maybe the other was busy throwing their trail off or could he have been…killed? The uneasiness was suddenly transferred over to his chest, sighing softly to calm his nerves down. It wouldn’t do well for Suguru to have the same energy and perhaps lose his composure that might cause her death. Letting his guard down was never a good idea, which is precisely why he wanted to understand her perspective about their situation. She may have rejected becoming the new vessel though they had to remain in hiding until another vessel was produced. If things were damned by the higher-ups, then he’ll speak out in her defense. It was only natural to deliver her wish of staying with everyone that mattered to her.

Pulling out a simple bar of granola, Suguru displayed it before her eyes to grasp it. He could already detect another incoming stomach growling like before. “You need to preserve your strength before moving on to the next building. Remember…both Satoru and I will continue keeping you safe until you’re back with Kuroi. Just bear with it a little longer, Amanai.” That was the only assurance the jujutsu sorcerer could offer even if he had no idea what would become of them both. Nor of what happened to Satoru when they split apart.

The scent of the medicine hit Tanjiro first; the herbal smell being strong enough to pull him out of the accidental doze between checkups. He couldn't help the nose scrunch, the scent being rather potent even through the blocked nose. Sniffing and shaking his head to clear blurry vision, he was quick to sit up.

Burgundy eyes snap to her; guilt immediately swimming inside his irises as Tanjiro realised that he'd been caught out of bed. But he really was feeling better....despite the fever that raged and his stumbling steps after standing up. But he was getting antsy just lying there, and wanted to do something...!

"But Nezuko!" Tanjiro couldn't help the words that might have been more like a whine, but that he'd ever admit that. Under her piercing gaze, he got back towards his bed on shaky legs; heat all but radiating from his forehead all over again.

For a fraction of a second, Gojo froze. imperceptible. Then his face turns back into his usual aloof expression. Eyes hidden behind a blindfold as usual.

What was he supposed to say? 'of course, I'm coming back!'. What if he didn't?Then he would have told her a lie... and it might have been the last thing he ever said to her. Not that he was plaaning on dying -- oh hell no! He was the strongest ater all.
