This leaf-shaped pendant is decorated on both sides. The front is adorned with the name of the deity Shrinathji, a form of Krishna, written in an ancient holy language and framed with a border of flowers and birds. The reverse depicts the feet of Vishnu, another principal deity in Hinduism. The two rings at the top and one at the base suggest this item could be worn around the neck or tied around an arm.

Shrinathji acceps Mughal Shringar, Nathdwara, Rajasthan ताज़ बेगम का श्रृंगार (Taj Begum ka Shringar) Thakur ji wears a सूथन और पटका (Suthan, Stripped pyjamas and Pathak, the flowing matching dupatta). Suthan is a Mughal style of unisex pants. At the time of Shri Gusaiji, a number of imperial wives were Hindu. Akbar was modern and secular enough to allow them to keep their religion. Taj begum - (from her name, she could be muslim or of mix-marriage) was obviously interested enough in Pushti Marg to offer a manorath to Shri Nathji. Her manorath would have comprised of clothes, jewels, food and even kirtans to be sung to match the mood / bhav she had for Shri Nathji. Taj bibi must have been devoted enough to Pushti Marg / Shri Nathji for Gusaij to permit the manorath. Fact that the style of dress Taj begum offered is used still used during the summer means it must have proved popular among the laity and priesthood of the time. It is now established as a ‘regular shringar’ during the summer months when Shri Nathji - and other svaroops in Pushti Marg - wear suthan and a scarf with pearls and simple ornaments in the pagh. By introducing mughal / muslim dress in the haveli, Gusaiji conveyed his open minded, practical approach to the questions Hindus had about their allegiance to religion vs state vs employer. Your dress is an external matter and does not impact your inner being.
