Made a purification & protection body scrub for my shower today :)
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp coffee grounds (for keeping yourself grounded)
- 1/2 tbsp sea salt (for purification)
- approx. 1/4 stick of cinnamon or 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (for protection; cinnamon also boosts the power of whatever its used with)
- 1/2 tbsp dried chamomile flowers (for purification & protection)
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (for protection; it’s also lovely and moisturising!)
- 1/4 tsp brown mica powder [optional] (brown for grounding, balance, protection and hard work. I added it hoping for a bit of leftover shimmer, but I actually used too little, about 1/8 tsp! The little scoop pictured came with a pack of mixed mica powder, and I didn’t want to get shimmer all over my kitchen measuring spoons!)
Method
- Add all dry ingredients, except the mica powder, to a pestle & mortar.
- Grind until the chamomile flowers are simply fine flecks in the powder (you may need some elbow grease if you’re using whole cinnamon like me - I had to be content with larger flakes of the cinnamon!) Try to grind only in a clockwise motion if you can to attract luck and give power to your scrub.
- Transfer the powder to a plastic bowl (you don’t want it slipping and breaking in the shower).
- Add the olive oil and mix well with a spoon (again, mix clockwise!). Check the consistency - it should form a coarse paste with no excess oil pooling in the bottom of the bowl. Add some more sea salt a pinch at a time if your mixture is too oily, mixing in between each pinch until all the oil is just absorbed.
- Now carefully add your mica powder (if using). Stir gently - it will get everywhere!
In the shower
- You can do this at any stage of your shower, but make sure your skin is wet all over. I did it whilst my conditioner was in, as I have to leave it to sit anyway. Turn off your water before you start so you don’t wash the scrub away too quickly, and so you don’t waste water!
- Scoop some scrub from the bowl and begin to massage in clockwise circles over your body. Visualise negative energy being scrubbed away as you gently massage it into your skin (you should have enough to cover your torso, arms and legs. AVOID YOUR FACE - the skin there is very delicate and this may be too irritating).
- Let the scrub sit on your skin for a minute or two, and continue visualising the negative energy being pulled from you.
- Rinse off the scrub (be careful - the oil could make your bath/shower slippery!), visualising the negative energy being washed away with it.
- You’ll be able to feel the olive oil still on your skin and see the way it repels water - visualise this as a protective layer that will prevent negativity from entering your body.
And that’s it!
Shower Meditation
Once you get in the shower, turn on the water and ground yourself by imagining a straight line coming from the sky, going down your spine and and then into the ground.
Focus on the sensation of water dripping down your body. Notice how your skin feels like. Is the water warm or rather cold? Can you feel it on your skin? How does your body feel like? Are you tense or relaxed? What are your thoughts right now? Notice all of this without judging. Just be aware of everything you feel right now.
Now visualise the water clearing your mind as it flows down your head. Give in to the cleansing effect of the water. Say (or think):
"Dear Water, clear my mind and clear my body. Wash away the worries and the tension that have collected over the day"
Now imagine it filling you with new, clear, untainted energy. Think abut the things you want to achieve tomorrow. Don't think too far into the future. Say:
"Dear Water, fill me up again. Fill me with the energy I need for the next day. Give me a clear mind and a clear heart, but don't leave me empty."
When you feel ready, you can thank the element for it's support and for it's kindness. Go on with your normal shower routine, but keep the feeling of gratitude.
Witchy tip:
It's okay if you dont like to take baths, I usually dont either. In order to "infuse" my shower with magic I either buy specificly scented soaps/conditioners/shampoos, or light candles with a specific intent in mind and put it on the counter/vanity. Bars of soap also tend to come in different scents.
Bath magic is fun, but it isn't for everyone. There's always ways you can work witchcraft into anything you do!😀😀
As to shower magic; I've seen people use mesh bags or cheese cloth that they put herbs/crystals in and then put it around the shower head before turning the water on. Another alternative if you have something specific you want for just one shower.
This is an amazing idea!!!! Thank you for telling me this!

• Herbs Shower – a Brazilian folk magic practice
Here in Brazil, it is quite common to buy pre-made bundle of herbs whose purpose is to cleanse, keep away the evil eye and negative energies. It’s a ritual that we inherited from the afroindigenous’s religions and practices, and was slowly implemented in our daily lives as a costume.
The shower bundle can consist of any number of herbs – most commonly seen one is done with only coarse salt, as an all out cleaning through which recharging has to follow up (as it’s not recommended to just clean the body of all energies and then leave it as a clean slate).
I noticed that there are a lot of recipes for bath magic going around (and I absolutely adore them!), as it seems somewhat common for people outside of South America to have bathtubs – here in Brazil it’s quite rare to find someone whose bathroom has one of those – so for those that have no access to bathtubs, here goes a mix I like to do whenever I’m preparing for something a little bit bigger or demanding in my craft.
• Cleansing, Protection and Amplifying - Herbs Bundle
- Coarse Salt • Earth - Water Element • Natural cleanser, the salt washes away all energies and brings the body into a balanced state.
- Dried Spearmint • Air Element • Amplifier of psychic abilities, amplifies the connection with the immaterial, protection.
- Black Peppercorn • Earth - Fire Element - Protection, keeps away negative energy and generates boundary between what’s inside and what should stay outside.
• Get your ingredients and while preparing your infusion hold them tight and put your intention into them – the act of preparing the infusion is the one where you’ll do your prayers and request for permission/blessing from you deities. Drain it just so that you don’t have to spend more time washing the shower floor. (You may find other uses for the herbs mix!)
With that done, go into your shower – after you wash yourself normally first – and start pouring the Herbs Infusion - from the left side of your body until the right. With a constant of your intent and your graces.
That’s it! Good shower and have a safe practice!
Shower Witch Tip
I dont have a bathtub so bath magic is not something I currently practice, BUT between research and pondering I’ve found an alternative:
cheap sauce bottles!
You can put your herbs, oils and other ingredients into the bottle, fill it with hot water at the start of your shower, then douse yourself with it when you’re ready. I tend to do this right before I get out of the shower so this energy stays with me.
Can always tell when your lady used the shower last. Massage set to destroy...
