For the Shostakovich part I didn't base it on any particular bit of information my source is genuinely just the pain in my heart. If you want to figure out if I actually meant anything I recommend Elizabeth Wilson's "Shostakovich: A Life Remembered" I think it's a solid piece of work and truly one of the best Shostakovich sources the English-speaking West has.
