I have recently learned of the TV show Severance
The idea is that people's lives become split between their time at work (innies), and their time away from work (outies). As best I can tell (haven't watched it yet), neither side remembers anything the other does.
The Short Wave spoilers make it sound like this is something some people do as a way to deal with trauma, and not just a Late-Late Stage Capitalism Worse Possible Version of Ten Years From Now that I'm burnt out on right now.
But I'm wondering if it also explores how the innies and outies would start to relate to each other. Does the innie eventually start to resent the outie? "I'm working eight hours a day, I can't know anything outside the door of this office, and they're getting to enjoy all the fruits of my labor. I'm gonna order some really uncomfortable shoes from Amazon, and put them on right before leaving work just to give them a really painful walk to the home I can no longer visit."
