The amount of Shen Yuan character assassination I see has to be studied, I know it's common for people to mischaracterize but my god does it go hard for him 💔. Shen Yuan was never a soft boy who didn't care for cultivation and had a weak core. I like the Shen Yuan being sickly in childhood au as much as the next person but there comes a point in time where fans milk the entire concept out until it's tasteless. Especially when it's done nonsensically and warps his character. Shen Yuan is an unreliable narrator, he might gloss over him losing cultivation but it's obvious from the very beginning how enamored he was at the concept of being able to use it. He doesn't have the same attachment as a modern person who had nothing to do with Shen Jiu's cultivation progress at that point, but that doesnt mean that he would be someone who never cared about cultivation in the first place. And he's not a naive fool who's easily manipulated or trusts everyone. When people write things like "they kissed constantly but it was obvious to Shen Yuan that it was just a friendship kiss" come on now.

The fact that Shen Yuan never develops the proper time to mourn his family actually hits me so hard and is one of the reasons I'm so greatful for the extras.
