What do people mean when they say, "Focus on consciousness, not the mind"? It sounds confusing—how do you actually do that?
It definitely sounds confusing, but it's much easier if you imagine you're at the movie theater:
The mind is the movie playing on the screen. It's the chaos, the doubts, and the thoughts constantly changing.
Consciousness is you sitting in the seat, just watching the screen.
When people focus on the mind, they are basically jumping into the screen to fight the characters in the movie (trying to fight doubts or force thoughts to change).
Focusing on consciousness just means remembering you're the one sitting in the seat. If a bad scene pops up (a doubt), you don't fight it. You just relax, stop giving it your attention, and remember that you're the one controling the projector. You just gently shift back to the feeling of what you actually want to experience.
