Shinranweek 2026 Day 3 Domestic
ShinRanweek 2026 Day 3 Domestic
Kitchens can be places of chaos. Hot stoves, messy batters, slick surfaces, sharp implements, risk of collision. Thankfully for none of that is happening is this particular kitchen. The Kudo mansion can have its own chaotic moments, but the kitchen for the most part doesn’t see them. And that’s good considering all the safety risks in it. Especially when one of the home dwellers isn’t the best of cooks. The smoke alarm doesn’t go off as much as it used to; Shinichi improves each day, at least that’s what Ran says. Since moving in together, Shinichi became adamant to learn how to cook for both them. And amazingly, he’s got a knack for sauces and icings! And soups and broths! He’s quite the sous chef as he would joke. And that’s what he’s working on as Ran finishes frying the shrimp tempura.
“Are your apprentices having fun?” Ran asks.
“They’re playing video games in the living room. It’s nice that we’ve planned a sleepover for them. Heiji and Kazuha should be coming up tomorrow, and then we’ll go to Disneyland.”
“It’d be a nice change from the usual hangouts. Can you pass the seasoning?” Shinichi passes it without taking his eyes off the glaze he’s simmering. “Shinichi, it won’t cook right if you keep staring at it.”
“I know the superstition, but I want to get it right for them.” Ran can’t help but be endeared over Shinichi’s love for “his” kids. ‘I hope he’s still like that when our time comes,’ Ran muses to herself. Then she decides to do something different. She sneaks behind Shinichi and wraps her arms around him, slipping them between his apron and shirt. Shinichi is caught a little off guard, a slight pinkish tinge forms in his cheeks. But a warm smile forms on his face nonetheless.
“You know, it’s usually the guy doing this to the girl.”
“Yes… but I want you to know how it feels and why I like it. Do you?”
“Yes, it does feel nice.”
“And I hope it continues to feel nice.”
“It will, it will. It always feels nice when you’re with me.” Ran pulls herself closer as Shinichi turns around to properly hug her. A kiss is shared. It’s a nice moment, until…
“Do you smell something?” Shinichi asks.
“What do you- THE TEMPURA!” Ran yells.
“Huh- OH NO”. The couple springs into action, shutting of the heat and taking the tempura pan off the stove. The burning is contained with no need for an extinguisher. That moment of adrenaline passes, but the burnt tempura lies soaked in the sink. Shinichi and Ran look over the remains.
“I’ll call for some take out,” Shin offers. Ran nods.
“Everything alright nii-sans?” the junior detective league peaks into the kitchen. All concerned, except Haibara who’s smirking.
“We had an accident, so dinner might be a little longer,” Ran apologizes.
“But hey, more time for video games! And we’ll still make sure you guys get cake for dessert!” Shinichi says.
“Yay!” the kids say in unison. As they head back into the living room, Haibara lingers.
“Nice save you two, you’ll be perfect parents in the future,” she leaves knowing that the two teens are blushing into spluttering messes. Ran and Shinichi look to each sheepishly, taking each other’s hands with a knowing understanding that yes some day in the future, they will be.
