I briefly “played” Tears of the Kingdom again when I needed reference pictures of Beedle for Inktober, and I realized I had never told Shibo and Darton, the children at the Dueling Peaks Stable, that I knew what mysterious creature the big footprints they kept talking about belonged to.
Now they know what dondons are and I’m happy.
I love that the game has these optional and unlisted “side quests” you can do if you feel like it, like showing a picture of Mattison to her parents or the “Voe and You” class. You don’t get anything for doing that except the characters’ gratitude and a sense of accomplishment, and it’s another reason Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are so great and special to me.
You follow Link’s adventure, but at the end of the day, the real story of these games is how you play them.
They make you feel like you’re the real hero.
