Planet Baiying from @crimsonlotustea. This is viscious and oily, with a fresh thirst quenching juiciness. It has some bitterness and astringency when pushed, with citrus sour notes. 2021 Autumn Old Arbor Sheng from @white2tea I’m a gobble gobble munchkin Always sippin’ something So I’m surprised this little fifty gram guy even survived Gentle with the knife, pulled the entire top off. It lifted like the hood of a car, feel me? Fresh dew on grass notes still present in a mouthwatering way but time has coaxed some alfalfa out. Hay and sprout. My Qi-game pre-game was some old Keemun from @goldenmoontea Had 2 grams tops but it set the stage nicely for the star. Got 15 infusions before I had to call it quits. Could tell the leaves had more to give. Much more in fact. Threw em in a glass jug of water and stuck em in the fridge. 18 hours will tell just how much they really had left. Have you ever been kicked in the face? I have. Only once, but it makes an impression. The circumstances are blurry. Obscured by the passage of time. I was young then. Seventeen. Tougher than I am now. Never as tough as I thought I was. I had just been robbed. In the rush of confusion and anger, I jumped in through the open passenger window of the culprit. I wasn’t thinking, but if I had been, my thought process would have been something along the lines of “If I jump in the car, swinging my arms wildly, maybe I’ll scare these people enough to make things right.” I know, I know. I already said I wasn’t thinking. The window was being rolled up and the glass was cutting into my ribs. The driver threw the car in reverse, traveled a few yards, then slammed on the breaks. With his left foot on the break, he brought his right foot up and cocked it back. Despite the awkwardness of the angle, he let it rip and caught me square in the jaw. The window continued its ascent and I fell back from the vehicle into a cloud of dust. The car pulled away, but not before my friend had a chance to smash the windshield with his skateboard. What can I say, teenage years can be hard years. Hotline Space Coyote brought it all back. By round 4 and 5 I felt like I was being kicked in the face. Yesterday I showed up to the studio where I practice pottery and this little mini was sitting by my wheel. That woodwork- party-invite with sheng-hat has got to be one of the nicest touches I’ve ever seen. The friend who left it owns a shop in town that sells puer - sadly, a rarity in the US - and it’s really exiting for me to receive this unmarked tea. Unfortunately, and I think this is just human nature, the website write ups and the hype and what other drinkers say and the price all influence my perception before i even taste the tea. The low-key wrapping and the element of mystery snaps me into the present moment, helps me pay closer attention and allows me judge for myself.
