OK, it's a short story: I was scrolling through the Twitter and saw this post, but it already has too many likes and I don't like arguing on Twitter, so let's talk about George Cooper here.

We all see that his image in tbbt (cheater and heavy drinker) significantly differs from his image in ys (just a dude, not great, not terrible).

Why?

This post offers an interesting perspective. It's funny. It's a life situation. I'm not against it.

But I also don't think it conforms to canon.

For example, in tbbt Sheldon had never told that his father was terrible. Like, his claims about his mother are on the same level. And all bad things we know, we know from Mary. Yes, she is just an offended wife and we can argue this way...

But we forget about one thing.

"Young Sheldon" is a screen adaptation of Sheldon's memoirs. We see that his childhood was kinda normal from HIS book.

And who said that he can't be an unreliable narrator?

Yes, he has an eidetic memory. But he could be lying in his book.

And I think he doesn't LIE. He... embellishes.

Like not only his father is better in ys then in tbbt. His mother is cuter too. Even his granny is much more progressive in ys - in tbbt she translates some outdated and sexist views but not in ys.

That doesn't sound like an honest story about childhood in the '80s-'90s. It's more like a 40-year-old man's attempt to correct his not very good (or even terrible) childhood.

His attempt to write his own bedtime story.

By the way, because of this theory it's very funny to me to see comments like "yeah he likes Penny because she is similar in character to his granny/sister/mother".

No.

He writes his story, replacing unpleasant images with something more comfortable like Penny.

She is not similar to them. They are based on her.

And in reality she is not similar to them AT ALL. That's why they (Penny and Sheldon) are friends.

(And of course that episode with George's lover, wich is Mary, is just an attempt to correct child trauma. An attempt by adult man who knows about sex-role play.)

P.S.: DO YOU REMEMBER THAT SCENE WHEN SHELDON EXPLAINS PENNY WHY HE CAN DETERMINE A PERSON BY THEIR STEPS?
