Sublimation on Sheer Fabric ā Final Sample
This sample was created using sublimation printing on sheer polyester fabric. The image comes from a digitally edited motif of a leaf skeleton (see Sample 1), where I isolated structural veins to create a bold visual impact. Although delicate cotton fabrics like muslin were tested, sublimation is a technique designed specifically for synthetic materials. Therefore, I chose a lightweight sheer polyester fabric to successfully transfer the print and evoke a feeling of lightness. Cotton organza, which has a similarly transparent quality but with a more natural texture, will be tested in the future using the same motif. After printing the image, I created cut-outs by carefully burning the fabricās surface with a heated tool. This intervention allowed light to pass through select areas, creating depth and contrast between printed and unprinted zonesāwithout layering fabrics. The outcome is visually compelling. The combination of transparency, organic forms, and the ethereal print creates a floating effect. The print remains crisp, and the perforated surface enhances the idea of fragility and resilienceāconcepts that mirror the emotional layers explored in my narrative of female liberation. The strength of this sample lies in its control and aesthetic delicacy. The main challenge involved applying heat without damaging the surrounding fabric, which requires attention and precision. The future use of cotton organza may offer new tactile and symbolic possibilities while preserving translucency.
