The sawing sensation against her joints didn’t give her a moment of pause even when Rumi caught sight of her hair. The disappointment followed immediately, dropping like a stone in her stomach, tugging everything around it downwards. They had changed the color and styling again—this time to a strawberry blonde, long and wavy. It felt almost like an insult to give her long hair again and not put it into a braid. She had always worn it that way—prior to the cybernetics—and she had always preferred the purple color that they once let her choose, years ago when she was still training. She didn’t get any choice now.

for all that mara has done to try to change her fate, IT'S MARA DAY!! mara i know you are just writhing at being perceived like this but i need you to consider: you are wonderful and you deserve your flowers, even if we have to pelt them at you while you run screaming away from us.

SECOND OF ALL: YOU'RE A GOOD WRITER. PERIOD. i have proof because i came bearing recs. okay everyone, if you've not yet read mara writing you NEED to. i'm going to give you a rec list and you're going to read my recommendations. okay? okay.

afterimage of a lightning strike. i didnt even know mara yet before i found this fic and it was an INSTANT click from me. cyberpunk kpdh au from someone who actually gets cyberpunk, and i don't say this lightly because i am picky as fuck about my cyberpunk stories.

i've already given up on myself twice. UGH. this one conveys so much rumi whumph in such a short period of time. mara is so good at getting in, punching you in the face, and getting out again. if you don't have time for any other fic, you have time for this one. ESPECIALLY if you liked yannie lonely lavender bones

i wasn't there (but i know). for someone who doesn't normally blend mira and zoey, mara does SUCH A GOOD JOB blending mira and zoey here! i love seeing the aftershocks of the idol awards hitting everyone, and everything is portrayed in such a compassionate and compelling way. my fucking heart.

smile like the sun. FLUFF? IN MY SAD AUTHOR PROFILE? it's more likely than you think. anyway if you love trans rumi (which you should) please read this CUTE AF trans rumi anniversaries fic!! your heart will melt, which is good because it's probably pretty tender after reading the other fics.

(don't) handle me with care. fun fact i LOVE watching the post-idol-awards fallout and the girls being so tender with each other and this? this is that<3

by which i mean: IT'S YANNIE DAY. where do i start about @yanniest? maybe like this: whenever someone asks for good kpdh fanfic, yannie is one of the first names out of my mouth. maybe that yannie is the first author i've ever podficced. maybe that when it comes to pre-debut huntr/x, yannie's fic paints one half of the pre-debut canon in my mind.

literally every fic yannie's written has been amazing, there are literally zero misses in her writing catalogue. and the fact that she can write at the speed she does and still make such incredible, insightful, and compelling stories? absolutely insane.

here's just a few i think everyone should read!

lovely lavender bones: aka years of rumi hiding every injury she gets from mira and zoey. when i say this fic has skyrocketed to my top list of favorite fics, it is HIGH PRAISE because there are so many goated fics up there.

i'm fine, i'm fine, i'm fine (then i start crying): the fic that made me start podficcing! i fucking love an alternative pattern reveal and yannie is firing on all cylinders with characterization for each of the girls in this one!

you crave the applause (yet hate the attention): THE ocd rumi fic! this fic has diagnosed More Than One Person with ocd already and you too can read it and learn something about yourself! such an incredible depiction of life with ocd and of rumi's trauma post-movie.

years of senseless waiting: RUMI MAKES ME SO SAD IN THIS ONE. i love everyone's characterization so much; we get to know them so intimately and see the vulnerable underbellies of their youths in such a beautiful and tender way. polytrix predebut, to ME.

the sky set to burst (the gold and the rust): one of my favorite "rumi actually loses her patterns with the completion of the golden honmoon" fics. SUCH INCREDIBLE CHARACTERIZATION from everyone - celine, rumi, mira, zoey, ALL OF THEM are portrayed in such a delicious way in such a stressful situation. i am gobbling it up all the time.

i'm limiting myself to five because genuinely i will just link yannie's entire catalogue if nobody stops me.

lastly, yannie is SO deeply kind and helpful! i always see her kicking around offering to help people with their writing, sharing her advice, and uplifting other people in the fandom. truly a triple threat of having incredible ideas, writing exceptional stories and being a wonderful fandom community facilitator.
