Why do you write Shaun as Transgender? Did the actor come out?
no, it's not connected to the actor and it's not a canon thing. it's just a headcanon i'm very attached to, with some loose stuff from the source material that you could use as a basis, if you wanted
shaun's entire character to me (among other things) represents repression and denial, both literally and allegorically, to the point of hurting both herself and other people, mainly michael. whereas michael was demonized, cut off from society, horrifically traumatized by the medical industry, shaun had to hold the role of being the "proper son who fits in," and went through things that, to me, were quieter, but cut a lot deeper than i think she realizes. and while you can write the ramifications of that on a character without having them be trans, it adds another layer to her character that i think works really well
