What is Akasyr's favorite story/lore/folklore within your wip?
Oh, this is an exciting question. Thank you for asking!
Akasyr is actually something of a romance fan. His favorite story about Himself, therefore, is the one mortals tell of Him and His husband, Sharisa. The drifts traditionally tell this story through dance, and He especially likes how they characterize the gestures and movement of the humans’ dancing style to show that Sharisa is a god of a different people.
In the times leading up to TFE, the story of Him and Sharisa had been suppressed by nobility and priests/esses were not permitted to perform it for many years due to rules about monotheism and separation from human culture. Thus He took to listening to the way humans told the story, and other stories like it.
Akasyr enjoys intrigue and sensuality in media, even if it’s about Himself, haha. He would be the sort to cozy up for the evening with a spicy little romance in His hands.
Akasyr and Sharisa. I’ve drawn them before but this encapsulates their personalities a bit better than before. Sharisa is mischievous, and rather energetic and almost too happy. Many others find Him a bit silly. Akasyr, in contrast, is too serious for the taste of others, stern and cold. No one quite knows why, therefore, they chose to become partners.
And now to toot my own horn cause no one else will: let’s go through the details that really make this piece excellent. The matching pearl necklaces and bracelets would be most noticeable. Next would be the golden ring Akasyr wears around His neck—given to Him by Sharisa. And notice after that, if one is especially keen, how Sharisa’s clothing complements Akasyr’s. Truly a devoted couple.
For pride this month, I’m going to share some of the queer characters in my stories. As a queer person myself, I feel it’s important to have casual representation in media, and I want to do my part to add to it. So, every weekend you’ll get to meet one or two characters who would identify as something other than cisgender and heterosexual if those kinds of labels mattered in their world.
Our third character this month is Akasyr, the monotheistic deity of the drifts, and also Sharisa’s partner (in life and in crime). While never explicitly stated in the books, He is canonically asexual.
Another very interesting fact about Him is that He would likely also identify as transmasculine. Gods do not experience gender as mortals do (gods don’t really have assigned sex. Just gender), but Akasyr identified as feminine for a large portion of pre- and recorded history before realizing He was more comfortable presenting as masculine. As a result, He is generally regarded as a patron deity of trans people in the polytheistic cultures in which He is included.

Sharisa plays a small role in part two of Ga’avan the Mighty, and His relationship with Akasyr is paralleled to that of Kyall and Fastar in The First Emperor. He would most closely identify with the designation of gay.

Because if I’m going to scream into the void, I’m going to scream about the things I like.
Akasyr has lots of jewelry. More than what’s pictured below. But these are His favorite pieces as they appear in my drawing of Him from May 2024.
1. The armband
Composition: large pearls, cowrie shells, jade beads, fluorite pieces, and chrysocolla.
This piece of jewelry is one of a set of identical armbands Akasyr handmade for the other members of the maritime alliance (the various ocean and river deities). It is used to identify one another beyond the water. He began making them for His friends within the alliance initially, but it later expanded to the rest of them when others saw and asked Him to make pieces for them as well. They are not usually worn in water as they may mildly limit mobility and wear down.
2. The bracelet
Composition: large pearls, jade beads, cowrie shells, and rose quartz pieces.
He and His partner Sharisa have matching bracelets. He made them when they were courting, to express His affection for Sharisa as He does not speak. Rose quartz is a very common symbol of affection in numerous cultures. He made it to resemble many of His other pieces because at the time they were created, He did not wish to advertise their relationship to others.

3. The waist beads
Composition: small pearls, jade beads, cowrie shells, shark teeth, carnelian and chrysoprase pieces.
Akasyr once had a shark as a pet. He was very fond of it, until it passed on. He collected the teeth and made various pieces of jewelry with it. The carnelian is said to help maintain good energy flow.
4. String of pearls and gold ring
Composition: very small pearls, gold and sapphire.
The string of pearls was cast into the river by a woman betrayed by her lover, and later found by Sharisa, who takes turns with Akasyr and a few other friends wearing it. The sisterhood of the traveling pearls, if you will.
The ring is suspended on a gold chain around His neck as Akasyr’s fingers are webbed. There is an inscription on the inside of the ring, “a love as eternal as the ocean itself”. It was a gift from Sharisa when they made their partnership official.
Sharisa and Akasyr. I put this to Sailor Song by Gigi Perez on my insta, it felt fitting as They’re both water gods and also queer. I swear to the gods if this piece gets suppressed as much as my other ones I’m going to eat drywall.
Anyway, I’m proud of the pose (did it myself, no reference!) and Akasyr’s beautiful flowing hair. Me personally, I’d never let mine get so long if I worked underwater, but He’s immortal and so is His husband so I suppose He can afford to spend the time detangling it day after day.
Those scales really make me wonder why I let my favorite characters be fish people.
