"What do you mean he's going away?"
You were in total disbelief. Your best friend... was going to juvie - actual juvie. He apparently got busted for drugs with stupid Sammi's stupid fucking kid.
Your parents were pretty furious that you'd demanded to see him - they said no. That didn't stop you though, no. You went right to Fiona. You begged her, pleaded with her.
"I need to go see him. Please. He's my best friend. My parents won't let me."
Well, Fiona loved you, she loved Carl, and she fucking hated your parents... so she gave in. You were allowed a five minute visit with him and that was it. After those five minutes, you couldn't see him again until the court date.
The two of you sat across from each other at the metal table. You couldn't read him, he was completely stone faced, he was showing no fear, absolutely none.
"Did they say how long you might be in for?" You asked, tilting your head curiously.
"Nah. I'm not worried though." He sounded so casual. How could he sound so fucking casual?
"You're not worried? Did I hear you correctly?" The disbelief is evident in your voice. When he shrugged, you were so close to jumping across the table and just smacking him. How in the hell was he not worried?
The five minutes was almost up... you hated the feeling that you might never see him again. Yeah, you were going to go to the court date with the Gallaghers, but you wouldn't actually get to see him. Sure, it was juvie, but your parents could forbid you from seeing him... well, not that that'd ever stopped you before.
"I'm gonna miss you." That's all you could manage out as the guards came to escort you out. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw his face fall.
"I... I'll miss you too."
For the next while, you just paced anxiously while waiting for the court date. You couldn't focus on anything. Your best friend was going away for god only knew how long... you didn't know what you were going to do without him. Sure, you were also friends with Debbie, you had other friends too. But this was Carl, your best friend since kindergarten. The boy who tormented you in the most loving way possible. The boy whose family welcomed you into their home without second thought when you needed comfort. Most importantly, the boy you refused to admit you were in love with. Would you ever get the chance to tell him while he was put away? The whole situation made your head spin.
You could barely even eat or sleep, the time felt too slow because you couldn't occupy yourself with anything else.
Then it was finally here - the court date you'd long awaited.
You couldn't stop bouncing your leg as you sat with the Gallaghers, to the point where Lip put his hand on your knee and told you to just take a deep breath.
"We won't know anything for a while, okay, kiddo? We gotta see how this plays out. Then you can be an anxious little disaster all you want."
At least Lip always knew how to make you smile, even in a situation like this...
"All rise."
Chuckie's trial was first. You had to stop yourself from gagging as Sammi tried to make it seem like he was a sweet innocent kid, and that the Gallaghers were all to blame.
Then came Carl's trial. You had to admit, they tried to make him look like an upstanding citizen... and it sort of worked.
Well, it worked until he spoke. You could not believe what was coming out of his mouth. The whole family was in disbelief. Except Lip, who stifled a laugh.
And then it was set. Carl was going to juvie for a year.
But to you, that felt like a lifetime.
You looked so distraught, he looked completely satisfied with himself until he saw your face when he looked back.

Summary: falling in love with your best friend wasn’t ever really part of the plan, but plans are meant to be broken right?
Warnings: sexual tension, best friends to lovers, found family, swearing, nervousness/anxiety

Falling in love with your best friend was never part of the plan.
You were just a girl from the South Side trying to keep your head above water, trying to finish a two-year degree, trying not to think too hard about the fact that your parents weren’t coming back. Life was already complicated enough without adding feelings for the one person who had somehow become your constant.
Because Lip Gallagher was a lot of things.
A recovering alcoholic. The son of an addict and a man who never knew when to stop. Too smart for his own good. Too self-destructive to do anything about it.
And you?
You were the one who stayed.
“What are you doing?” you asked, pausing mid-step as he stood up from the couch.
“Driving you,” Lip said simply, already reaching for his coat.
“You just got back from work,” you reminded him, brows pulling together. You knew what his shifts at the garage did to him—how they drained him, how sleep always came second to everything else in his life.
He ignored you, like he always did when he’d already made up his mind. His coat landed around your shoulders, his hat tugged down over your head before you could protest.
“It’s negative ten out,” he muttered. “The hell you’re walking to the bar.”
“Lip—”
“Get your ass in the car.”
You didn’t argue again.
You never really could.

The passenger seat of Lip’s beat-up car shouldn’t have felt like home, but somehow it did. Music played low through the speakers, his window cracked just enough for the smoke from his cigarette to slip out into the freezing air.
And somewhere between the silence and the rhythm of the road, it hit you.
Hard.
You were in love with him.
Fuck.
The worst part? You were pretty sure everyone already knew.
Everyone except him.
He had always been there. Through everything. In ways nobody else had been.
He punched a guy at a party once for trying to slip something into your drink. Didn’t even hesitate. Just saw, reacted, handled it. You hadn’t felt fear in that moment—you’d felt safe.
He held you the night you found out your mom wasn’t coming back. Just sat there with you, arms wrapped tight, letting you cry until there was nothing left.
He showed up to your dad’s funeral. Stood beside you. Held your hand. Talked to your grandma like he’d known her his whole life.
He climbed into your bed at night like it was second nature.
Like you were.
“It’s just harder at night,” he said suddenly, flicking ash out the window. “That’s when it hits. Makes me think about drinking.”
You glanced over at him, pulling your leg up to your chest. “How do you not?” you asked quietly. “You come to the bar, sit there with me, watch everyone else drink and just… go home.”
He huffed softly, scratching the back of his neck. “Honestly? It’s why I sneak into your room.”
You blinked.
“Liam’s basically my kid,” he went on, voice quieter now. “And watching you with him… I don’t know. It’s enough. Keeps my head straight.”
Your chest tightened.
“What about when he’s not there?” you asked, softer now. “When he’s with Debbie or Carl?”
Lip didn’t answer right away. His fingers tightened slightly on the steering wheel.
“I still come in,” he admitted. “Most nights.”
You knew that.
You just didn’t think he’d ever say it out loud.
“I think you’re my light,” he muttered after a second. “In a dark place.”
Your heart stuttered.
You reached over without thinking, lacing your fingers with his, bringing his hand up just enough to press a quick kiss to his cheek.
“Stay at the bar tonight?” you asked, voice barely above a whisper.
He glanced at you, something soft flickering behind his usual guarded expression.
“Don’t I always?”
You smiled, but it didn’t quite reach your eyes.
“Sometimes you leave with a girl,” you mumbled, trying to play it off, but the words felt heavier than you meant them to.
“Haven’t since rehab,” he said lowly.
That made your head turn.
“Really?”
He smirked slightly, glancing over at you. “You’re cute when you’re jealous.”
You rolled your eyes, heat rising to your cheeks. “I am not—”
“You’re always cute,” he cut in easily. “When you get mad at homework, when you dance around the kitchen with Liam, when you fall asleep in my shirt like you own the place.”
Your breath caught.
“You’re cute when you blush,” he added, quieter now.
The car slowed as he pulled up to the bar, but neither of you moved right away.
“How am I supposed to work,” you said, voice a little shaky, “when all I want to do is kiss you?”
He let out a rough laugh, shaking his head. “Guess you’ll have to wait, princess.”
You scoffed, already climbing over the console before you could second-guess it, settling right into his lap.
“Not even one?” you teased, tilting your head.
His hands found your hips instantly, grip tightening like it was instinct.
“If I kiss you,” he murmured, leaning in just enough for his breath to ghost over your ear, “it’s not gonna stop there.”
Your stomach flipped.
“This,” he gestured between you, voice lower now, “deserves better than a car.”
Your heart softened at that.
“Okay,” you whispered.
His grip tightened slightly. “Hey,” he said, gentler now. “I want this. Just… not like that.”
“I know,” you nodded, softer now.
“Don’t bite your lip,” he added suddenly.
You blinked. “What?”
“You do that,” he muttered, eyes dropping for a second. “It’s… distracting.”
You huffed a small laugh. “It’s hot when I do it, but you won’t kiss me?”
“Come here,” he muttered.
He pulled you closer, your body pressed against his chest, and you felt it—his restraint, the tension sitting right under his skin.
“Yeah,” he said under his breath. “That’s all you.”
Heat flooded your face.
“And it’s gonna stay that way until we get home.”
You swallowed.
“I should go to work,” you whispered, even though you didn’t move.
“And Liam’s not in your bed tonight,” he added, voice dropping just enough to make your pulse spike. “So the only person who gets you… is me.”
You leaned in just enough to press a quick kiss to his pulse point before slipping off his lap.
“Try and focus, Gallagher,” you teased, backing toward the door. “You’re the one who said we’re waiting.”
He was out of the car before you even made it halfway to the bar.
You shrieked, laughing as you ran inside, ducking behind Kev the second Lip came through the door after you.
“Save me,” you laughed, breathless.
“Sir, I’m gonna have to ask you to step back from the pretty lady,” Lip said in a terrible fake accent.
Kev barked out a laugh. “Y’all are idiots.”
You didn’t even make it two steps before Lip caught you again, hands bracing on either side of your head against the bathroom door.
“I got you.”
Your breath hitched.
“Yeah?” you tilted your chin up slightly. “What are you gonna do about it?”
His eyes darkened, fingers sliding into your hair, tugging just enough to make your pulse jump.
“You’re gonna go to work,” he said lowly. “And when we get home…”
Your breath caught.
“Then we’ll have fun,” he finished.
You nodded slowly, cheeks burning. “Okay.”
“Now go,” he muttered, pressing a firm kiss to your forehead.
You forced yourself to walk away, even though you could feel his eyes on you the entire time.

Throughout your shift, you didn’t need to look to know he was watching.
Characters: Lip Gallagher x Female Northside!Reader
Summary: Reader and Lip return to her house after school, but Reader’s mom comes home early and has a lot to say
Warnings: body shaming, discussion of food, discussion of exercise, discussion of weight
A/N: Readers mom reads like Emily Gilmore because I’ve been binge watching Gilmore Girls
It was mid-October and you had no idea how Lip survived without a coat, when you were dreading pulling your hand out of your pocket to unlock the door. Once you were both inside the warmth of your house you lead Lip upstairs to your room. “Wanna help me with my literature homework?” You asked him, putting your backpack on the floor and hanging up your coat.
“I do love you in that uniform…” he replied, sitting on your bed. You never thought that the kilt, sweater vest, blazer and saddle shoes were particularly attractive, but Lip always seemed to think so.
“Really?” You asked, straddling his lap.
“Mmm…” He replied, pushing your blazer off your shoulders “Southside bad boy corrupts private school girl? It’s like something from a romance novel.” You let your blazer fall to the floor. “Shall I compare thee to a summers day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate. Rough winds do-“ You interrupted Lip’s recitation of Shakespeare by clapping your hand over his mouth, hearing the front door open and close.
“Shit! My mom’s home early.” You whispered.
“Y/N!” Your mom shouted. You put your finger to your lips to signal Lip to be quiet, and climbed off his lap. You headed downstairs to see what she wanted.
“Hi Mom.” You said nonchalantly.
“Y/N! How long have you been home?” She asked, looking you up and down. You squirmed under her gaze.
“Just a few minutes, I was just about to start my homework.” She frowned.
“Hm… well, remember your sister is coming home from Yale this weekend.”
“Yes, Mom.” You replied monotonously.
“How’s your application to Princeton going?”
“I don't need to apply until next year.”
“Yes, darling, but Princeton will look closely at your junior year. Extracurriculars are important.” She placed her handbag on the bureau, paying more attention to the wood grain than to you.
“Mom, I’m already president of the Model United Nations and VP of the astronomical society.”
“Yes, but you’ll need more. Your sister was captain of the swim team, president of the key club, class president and valedictorian.”
“Mom, I’m not Laura.” You sighed, playing with your sleeve cuffs
“Don’t I know it.” Your mother retorted. She looked you up and down once more. “You’re looking fat. I’ll tell Maria to skip the after school snack, you can wait until dinner, and you’ll be taking salad for lunch for the rest of the week. Your father and I pay for the gym, you should use it.”
“Yes, Mom.” You said once more. “Can I go back to my homework now?” Your mother literally looked down her nose at you before she spoke.
“Fine. But I expect you to be exercising after dinner.” You nodded, fisting your hands inside your sleeves and wiling the tears not to fall. You quickly turned and ran back up the stairs, shutting yourself in your bedroom, back against the door, before you let the tears fall. You had completely forgotten Lip was waiting for you in there.
“Y/N?” He asked quietly.
“How much of that did you hear?” Your voice was low and quiet, almost trembling.
“Enough.” Lip replied. He opened his arms. “Everything she said is total bullshit. You’re not anywhere near fat, and you’re going to get into Princeton.” You allowed yourself to be hugged and comforted by Lip, tears falling on to the blue shirt you loved on him. “And if your mom really wants you to get some exercise I can think of an exercise regiment that she’ll hate.” You laughed wetly, before wiping your eyes with your sleeve.
“This is why I prefer your house.” You said quietly.
“What, too loud to think with the police turning up anytime they want?” Lip chuckled. You rested your temple against his shoulder.
“Yeah but it’s family. You may not have much but you love each other, and most of the time you even like each other.” Lip laughed at that. “You’re not competing against each other or trying to outdo each other’s achievements. Everything Laura does I have to be the same or better, whether I want to or not.” Lip seemed to think about that for a moment.
“I guess you’re right.” He said after a moment of silence. “We’re dysfunctional, sure, but I’d do anything for my family. Our achievements are what they are. Shit, I’ll be the first Gallagher to finish high school. Plus, Fiona likes you a lot more than she’s liked my other girlfriends.” You ran your thumb over his shirt collar.
“It’s refreshing. Fiona thinks it’s great when I get a C, Debbie likes when I bring my art homework, it feels safe.” You said quietly.
“Even with Carl running around?” Lip asked
“Even with Carl running around.” You laughed, and kissed him. “I’m totally serious though, my literature homework is due tomorrow.”
“Hmmm, can I be your reward afterwards?” Lip asked.
“Can we go to your house tomorrow?” Lip smiled and nodded. You smiled back and climbed off his lap, grabbing your book and sitting back on his lap.
“What are you doing, Y/N? I thought you were doing homework?” You grinned wickedly at Lip.
