Shakes x persistent journalist! S/o (Supa Strikas)
Out of all the Strikers, Shakes has the least amount of optics on him through media and socials. It would be Cool Joe but now that he finally is using modern technology instead of a fax machine, things have changed (the man runs a club and has a band, social media is kind of important for that!).
Part of it comes from Shakes himself preferring to be on the down-low off-season. Visit his mom, play games, go to the gym. It's hard to track him down in events if he doesn't go to a lot of them. An interview with him is the Holy Grail of achievements for a journalist.
For a certain up-and-coming journalist, trying to break into the big leagues with the rarest interview seems like too much but not s/o! They are in it to win it and get that interview!
Shakes is polite, but quick to turn down the interview. He figures that the last of that particularly cute journalist, and moves on.
Oh. Oh buddy.
Out of the journalists he has met, s/o is both the most persistent and the most intense he's ever seen. Most people can't keep up with a sprinting Shakes but by Jove do they try their best to! Email after email to the Supa Strikas Media coordinator is forwarded to Shakes, all from the same journalist. Weeks turn to months. Shakes opens up his email to find 10 new messages about this. They're still keeping up with his jogs like it was nothing.
Fine. One interview. And then never, ever, again.
When they do meet up for an interview, Shakes is expecting a studio. Lights in his eyes with cameras flashing and an audience of great fans and not-so-great fans. Not... coffee. At a little cafe with few people. S/o perks up as soon as he walks through the door, waving him over to a table with a recorder, paper and pencil. He's able to sit down, have idle chatter, get a coffee and only when he is good and ready does the interview start.
And what an interview.
Journalists are usually shoving mics into his face right as he comes off the pitch or screaming questions as they track him down. S/o is asking questions pleasantly over coffee and some breakfast, waiting and writing his answers as he talked. For once, Shakes can actually hear himself think during an interview. And he's actually enjoying it.
By the time the recorder has hit end, it's been at least an hour. For Shakes it flew by. S/o is putting away their notepad and pen when he offers to return the favor of coffee. Though, maybe this time without pen and paper. It's been a while since he's met anyone this pleasant and respectful in his line of work and he'd like to keep talking to them.
Weeks later, as the article graces the front of the Sports' cover, Shakes is making plans with s/o to meet up again. This time for other reasons.
His team is never letting him down that Mr. Media silence is dating a reporter.
