               it’s sungah’s first year at lucky charm, and while the girls in d.r.e.a.m have told her about the annual new year’s party, she hadn’t known what to expect. she knew it wasn’t going to be anything like the kind of new year’s parties that bigger companies might throw, but… what should she wear? is it casual or formal? will there be press lingering outside? partners are invited, but does that mean they’re welcome?

               not that she and jagger are partners yet. they’re still in that awkward kind-of-dating-kind-of-not phase. she wasn’t even sure whether she should invite him or not, but jiwon and yeseul had managed to convince her and the rest is history. her fellow trainees already know about jagger, but the party is the first opportunity they’ve had to actually meet him, so of course they’ve been grilling him all night ( and overlooking sangchul and his partner in the process ). it feels like they haven’t had a chance to just enjoy each other’s company all night, but it seems her friends have finally got the hint.

               sangchul always feels self-conscious when he has to use his crutch. it’s rare, and usually a sign that things are bad, so of course he’s hobbling around on it in time for lucky charm’s annual new year’s party. if that didn’t draw enough attention, having shadow in attendance with him does the trick. he’s sure people must think she’s his carer rather than his girlfriend with the way she dotes on him. maybe they shouldn’t have come…

               he’s spent most of the party sitting down this far, and that makes him feel bad too – he should be up and having a good time with shadow, not sitting down and wishing he’d stayed home. ❝ you don’t have to spend all night sitting here with me, ❞ he murmurs, fingers brushing the back of her hand as he speaks. ❝ go and have some fun with the girls. ❞ he nods over at dasom and the other members of d.r.e.a.m, all busy grilling mingming over something, it seems. ❝ they’re all dying to meet you. and the trainees, even if i’m not sure where they are. ❞ no doubt getting up to trouble like usual.

               something in his chest feels warm when she says she wants to stay with him, though it’s quickly replaced by guilt once more. he knows the accident wasn’t his fault, he tries to tell himself that on bad days, but sometimes he can only blame himself. what if he’d got in a different cab, what if he’d stayed out drinking longer, what if he’d gone home sooner. one simple change that night and he’d still be his old self. it’s hard not to blame himself with that mentality. lifting her hand to his mouth, he presses a kiss to the back of her hand before their arms rest on the table once more. ❝ thank you. ❞

               it feels strange celebrating new year’s eve without his family, but it hadn’t been worth the time and money it would cost to travel back to busan for one night ( because he has assignments to finish and studying to do ). so instead he’s with moonsoo, which frankly he doesn’t think is such a bad trade. he can certainly think of worse ways to spend the evening.

               except… things have been kind of weird since his birthday. moonsoo had made it pretty clear he likes him, and while sihoon can’t deny he returns the feeling, he isn’t ready to date yet. what are they supposed to do with their mutual affection now? do they ignore it and try to just be friends, or do they keep flirting even though nothing’s going to come of it just yet? it’s the kind of question he’d want to ask his mother, if it didn’t mean admitting he’s thinking about dating again. now isn’t the time to think about that, though.

               sihoon isn’t the best with alcohol, and it’s starting to show if the pink dusting his cheeks is anything to go by. he vaguely remembers coming here with some of the people in his class, but the only person he’s interested in right now is moonsoo. it’s nearly midnight, you’re supposed to kiss someone at midnight. he hadn’t responded when moonsoo kissed him on his birthday, beyond a sheepish thanks, now is his chance to return the favour. even if he’ll no doubt regret it in the morning.

               slender hands find moonsoo’s in the relative dark of the bar, lacing their fingers together softly. he murmurs something along the lines of i like you too, but between the music and his own quiet voice, it gets lost somewhere in the void between them. he doesn’t try to repeat it, choosing instead to plant a kiss on moonsoo’s lips, as casually as if he simply wished him a good evening, and tugs the elder boy off in search of his friends once more.

               all of sarang’s friends know about the guy from the beach ( how could they not, they were right there when it happened ), but they’ve yet to properly meet him. there’s been gossip about him being sarang’s dirty little secret, and hasn’t that made her laugh because she has a dirtier secret than him. she isn’t usually one to give in to peer pressure, but they’d all pestered her so much that eventually she’d agreed to bring him with her on new year’s eve just to shut them up.

               she has no issue with them meeting him, her issue is them meeting him when she isn’t sure if he’s a permanent thing. he’s not from korea, after all, and he’s told her he likes to travel around. maybe he’s permanent, maybe it’s a holiday fling, either works for her. but if it doesn’t end up being permanent, no doubt her friends will just think it’s another one of sarang’s short-lived relationships and they’ll all really around her thinking she’s heartbroken when she isn’t.

               she’d expected to have to take him home after a few drinks ( she knows theoretically men are better with alcohol than women, but he’s so skinny that he looks like he can’t handle more than a couple glasses of soju ), but he’s exceeded her expectations. seems they’re pretty evenly matched – sarang can outdrink most of the boys in her major. even so, she’s pretty buzzed by the time midnight rolls around, celebrating the new year by sliding her tongue into gabe’s mouth. ❝ happy new year, baywatch. ❞

               kiha prefers chuseok to new year’s eve. he gets to dress up in fancy clothes and eat songpyeon. bew year’s eve is for grown ups – everyone gets drunk and there’s loud, scary fireworks. he hasn’t told valentine he’s scared of them yet, curled up on the couch with him, head resting in valentine’s lap. will valentine think he’s silly for being scared of them? they’re always so loud that it hurts his ears. while he isn’t looking forward to the fireworks, he is looking forward to the kiss that comes before them.

               except when the moment comes, he’s so busy being scared of the fireworks that the kiss he gives valentine doesn’t last more than a second ( when kiha’s kisses are usually long and numerous ) before his head is back in the other male’s lap, hands pressed over his ears as he tries to curl up even smaller than he already is. the first bang makes him jump, and by the end, little kiha is in tears.

               given his fear of aging, new year’s eve is understandably a stressful time for taehyung. it’s why he’s sulking instead of celebrating with daemin, googling plastic surgeons near the office. they can do botox over a lunch break, right? the sound of daemin’s voice makes him look up from his phone screen, a pout resting almost permanently on his lips.
