Rukuth is a wise old ruler of the hidden dragon faction known as the Shadow Summoner. These mysterious dragons are kind and nurturing, towards other Shadow Summoners as well as the rest of the dragons. What makes their faction unique from the others is their incredibly beautiful magic, Shadow magic. They can warp shadows themselves, summoning limbs and creatures from the shadows beneath them and even creating armor or jewelry. They're incredibly peaceful, not looking to fight. When danger strikes their shaded home, they simply hide in the shadows. They protect the shadows and in return the shadows protect them. Rukuth specifically can use dark magic, a mix of dream weaver magic and shadow summoner magic. It shows up as a dark purple cloud with stars in them and has a cooling effect.
Rukuth enjoys telling the youngins about their adventures when they were young, how they and their Dream Weaver cousin would explore the realms and get into trouble. They lead their people with kindness and has contact with the other factions, being close allies with all dragon factions.
My sister just referred to Baghra (whose name she'd forgotten) as the Grandma Darkling and yeah idek what
Since this ask might be interpreted as Baghra and Aleksander NOT being the only two...
I wonder how many Shadow Summoners were ripped apart by an angry mob before they could've learnt to use their powers to defend themselves, how many were way too weak to do it effectively anyway?
Shadow and Bone- Chapters 3, 4, 14 & 22
Siege and Storm- Chapters 4, 22 & 23
We might not know what do Shadow Summoners summon, since it doesn't have anything to do with light, but apparently it has its own sound effects.
Or someone does them just for the show.
But hey- it certainly runs in the family- mommy dearest does it too:
Ruin and Rising- Chapter 11

Demon in the Wood (Leigh Bardugo)
He's just SO resigned.
Aleksander's thirteen, and a girl just attempted to threaten him for playing with her sister.
Because his powers are different.
Because he's different.
... and that's enough to assume he means to harm the child.
Aleksander is to Grisha what they are to otkazat'sya.
Demon in the Wood (Leigh Bardugo)
The Shadow Summoners' life sucks even more than average Grisha's. They're not merely outcasts from ordinary society, they're outsiders among Grisha too. What's worse- as living amplifiers they're in constant danger from "their own".
Would Sun Summoners fare better if it weren't for the Fold? Would they be also "freaks"- too different- among the weirdos?
You mentioned in a previous post that "shadow summoners were originally sun summoners". That sounds absolutely fascinating; could you elaborate and perhaps link a few posts?
Hi,
first of all, next time please send link to the post you mean, so I don't have to search my notes to find the one you're referring to. I don't always get to tumblr this fast, and it might turn into endless scrolling. 🙃
Second, it was a quote (with credit), so I'll refer you to @darkestelemental616 for more. ✌
