This Fic Friday is a little different because I'm talking about a fic I'm currently working on. My Avatar the Last Airbender fic Spirits Forgive Our Sins.
It's a canon divergent fic with the main changes being 1: the war lasted 90 years, not 100. It's been 10 years since the war ended. And along with that several characters have been aged up ten years. Namely Azula, Yue, Zuko, Ty Lee and Mai so they're all like 24-26 but characters like Katara, Aang, Sokka and Toph are still their canon ages.
The next chapter is halfway or over halfway done, that doesn't mean that it'll be posted very soon, college has me really busy and I keep hitting roadblock after roadblock. But it's coming along, and it'll be a long chapter, there's 2.6k words so far so I'm hoping it'll be over 3k when it's finished.
So this week instead of talking about it I'm going to post a scene from the next chapter as a little sneak peek.
After the war one of the first decrees that the new Fire Lord Iroh had made was to change the Fire Nation insignia back to the one that had been used before Sozin’s reign. In turn the New Ozai Society had taken Sozin’s insignia for themselves.
That insignia had been painted proudly on a war balloon.
Aang, Teo, Katara and Yue were standing at the entrance, looking confused, but horrified at all the weaponry. Teo the most of all. “Dad?”
The machinist paled when he saw his son. “Teo, you have to understand, I- I didn’t want to do this. But they gave me no choice! It was the only way to keep us safe.” He looked back to Azula in desperation.
She took a step forward, he took a step back, again and again until his back met something solid.
“I- I thought you were with them, I thought you were checking on my progress” The mechanist blathered, looking towards everyone else, silently begging for their help.
No one moved.
“You thought wrong.” She said, as apathetic as ever, but there was an unmistakable fire burning behind her eyes.
“I had no choice! I had no choice, please you have to believe me! They’ll be coming soon to collect the supplies.”
Azula grit her teeth, “how soon.”
The mechanist ripped his eyes from hers to glance at a calendar. “Tomorrow.”
