This is 8 wooden thread spools with thread from one of the best known makers of silk thread in the world, BELDING-CORTICELLI, even though it has been nearly a hundred years since they last produced thread. Two Belding brothers began the company in 1866, by 1890 they ran 4 silk mills. To maintain their quality and loyalty from their predominantly women workforce they constructed boarding houses and a corporate hospital for them. In 1932 they purchased Corticelli Silk Company, but the silk thread industry in the USA was dying partly due to the Great Depression which led to Belding-Corticelli closing its doors within the year. This thread lot has Mercerized Cotton and Bel-Waxed Mercerized Cotton threads some spools near full, others partly used and one empty. Most of the threaded wooden spools in the lot have spools that are very collectible in fact I seen a couple of these spools that were listed or priced individually at twice or almost three times what I have the whole lot of nine priced at.
