Photoreal Roman Emperor Project :
Using the neural-net tool Artbreeder, Photoshop and historical references, I have created photoreal portraits of Roman Emperors. For this project, I have transformed, or restored (cracks, noses, ears etc.) 800 images of busts to make the 54 emperors of The Principate (27 BC to 285 AD).

February 19, 197 AD: Battle of Lugdunum (modern-day Lyon). The victory of Septimius Severus over Clodius Albinus marked the end of the Roman Civil War (193-197 AD), which erupted after the elimination of Commodus and the brief reigns of Pertinax and Didius Julianus, two emperors who remained on the scene for only a short time.
Severus, governor of Upper Pannonia, after seizing power in Rome, moved eastward and confronted Gaius Pescennius Niger, who had taken power in the eastern part of the Empire with the support of the Syria legions. Pescennius was defeated in the Battle of Issus in 194 and was then eliminated while attempting to flee into the Parthian Kingdom.
To secure his position in the East, Severus had appointed Clodius Albinus, governor of Britannia, as "Caesar." But in 196, Albinus decided to rebel, partly because the previous year, Severus had given the title of "Caesar" to his son, Lucius Septimius Bassianus (better known as Caracalla). Thus, Albinus crossed the English Channel and arrived in Gaul, but his military campaign to assert himself was marked by fleeting successes and significant difficulties.
In the final battle of Lugdunum against Severus, Albinus was greatly outnumbered. Severus lured Albinus's Sarmatian cavalry into an ambush and defeated them. Then, the two armies clashed in a major engagement. Albinus's soldiers fought with great courage, and Severus himself risked his life. But in the end, with the help of the valor of Julius Leto, Albinus's lines were broken. Faced with defeat, Albinus chose to take his own life.
This way, Severus became the sole ruler of the Empire. He ruled until 211 and is remembered as one of Rome's greatest emperors.
