'serpentina' final review ⭐️!
misunderstood: the funny timing of the horns and other instruments was actually a nice touch. i love band sounds in music. interesting way to open the album.
meteorite: this track was really cool actually. lyrics were awesome and easy to get into and the instrumental had lots of snaps and synth with banks carrying it mostly with her voice. the outro was sooo good, it's literally just banks harmonizing and that sick ass acapella-heavy sound - simple but really nice to the ear.
fuck love: banks popping her alternative swag in this track. it was a nice listen. pretty simple, nothing really stood out. her flow was good tho.
deadend: mellow and moody. the chorus was good; banks's riffing and delivery was nice too.
holding back: the intro was so loud it got my attention immediately lmaoooo. nvm the whole track is loud okaaaay but this track had my attention the whole time. the first part of the bridge where she's saying she wants "you" more than moonlight, sunshine, water, etc. was probably the best part delivery-wise. i love a long ass bridge that breaks down into an extended outro / final chorus my god that's just real music mannn.
the devil: oh this wasn't bad. banks back with her alternative moody swag. ummm, i really liked the whispering in this track, she sounded sexy and menacing especially in the first/distorted part of the chorus. i actually liked the "weird" parts of this track more than like the obvious things about it...it only makes sense if you listen then you understand.
skinnydipped: production-wise, this was lowkey stunning. there's smth so subtly good about this. i'm not sure what to write about it or point out but just know that it's good.
burn: this was really reallygood. banks's voice here was so beautiful, and the amount of synth and tuning was applied here was just right to double the mood and message. outro was good too.
birds by the sea: mellow and moodyyyy. this was so good. moody alternative and blues - she always mixes those genres really well. i enjoyed this!
spirit: the church music 😂😂 was a bit unexpected. it wasn't bad tho! not very memorable either.
anything 4 u: i didn't care for this track it was a little boring. nothing really prominent about it.
unleavable: okay the instrumental in this was good. okay nvm the whole track is good holy shit this just might be the best song on the album.
i still love you: this is good. simple and sweet and personal. it's a cute little track about still being in love with your first love.
OVERALL, the thing is w banks's music for me is the weirder and more trippy and haunting or moody or mellow her voice and the music is, the more i like it. i think with this album she wasn't as weird and experimental as she could have been and i think that's why some tracks were boring to me. ones i know that i like for sure: meteorite, burn, and unleavable. the rest were alright, there wasn't a song i particularly hated.
because the overall production was solid, lyricism was on point, and i love banks's voice and musical style - i'll give this a high 5 out of 10. maaaybe highest 5.8, lowest 5.5. somewhere around there.
