Another subtle manipulation by the Doctor toward Belinda (and us) -- immediately calling her Bel. A nickname meant to make him feel closer to her than he actually is. Meant to make them feel connected. And I fell for it at first! I got distracted by the fact that it is an undeniably cute nickname! But in an episode where this woman's full name is used so prominently in a way she doesn't want, and she clarifies several times how she wants to be called - drop the Miss, it's not Linda it's Belinda, etc. - wow. He really is part of the problem. I dont even know how consciously he's doing it. But girl don't let him off the hook for a second you are Belinda!!

There's something that's been nagging at me, and I think I should get it off my chest.
I've seen a decent number of Doctor Who fans trying to explain the show's failure as a repeat of what happened to the show in the 80s. Jodie Whittaker is often compared to Peter Davison by people who don't like either, and then the last couple seasons are being compared to Colin Baker's seasons because they both reference the show's early continuity, and... that's about it. I could definitely play devil's advocate and make my own comparisons, but that would be pointless since none of these fans have made these comparisons themselves.
To put it bluntly, this is bad media literacy. The factors that Doctor Who was beset by in the 1980s are nothing like what has happened to the show now. Despite what the fandom loudmouths of the last thirty to forty years will tell you, the cancellation of Doctor Who in 1989 had nothing to do with the show's actual quality (I don't need to remind anyone that the last two seasons are universally acclaimed). It was a deliberate, concentrated effort by Michael Grade and Johnathan Powell. That's all. The Twin Dilemma could've been Citizen fucking Kane and the show would still have been axed eventually.
That's not what's going on now. The issues we saw over the last couple years are numerous and nuanced, but the biggest difference is that the BBC is actively trying to keep the show (or at least RTD's zombified stand-in for the show) afloat. There's rumors that they're trying to pawn it off on Amazon, Netflix, and HBO. Do I think the show is likely to get renewed? No. But the BBC seems to want it to get renewed, so long as it's still being produced by an independent studio on an American megacorp's dime.
TLDR: Whereas the original run of Doctor Who was terminated deliberately with malicious intent, this latest run of Doctor Who will be scuttled by asinine incompetence.
