hot take (?) : L sits that way not bcs I Get Smort but bcs its a defence mechanism. in that perching pose all of his vitals are guarded completely by his legs which we know are quite strong bcs he knows capoeira. his offensive is with his legs so he positions them in front of his more fragile parts (we saw in L's One Day oneshot how thin he is) like his torso. he's incredibly reclusive and doesn't trust AnyOne . moreover i bring to you manga panels of L pre-reveal. all the shots we got of him before his face reveal were of him either standing OR we saw him sitting like a normal human (actually, it was similar to near's posture - ill deliberate on that l8r ) but he did need his High Intellect even then right bcs he was working on the case still - the only difference was that he was alone . also when he's at college w/ light & he goes w/ watari in his limousine he sits normally (bcs hes w/ Watari aka he is COMFORTABLE bcs watari has known him since he was lowercase)
ps. idk if this is confirmed or smth. i do know that l was supposed to be a rlly hot guy b4 his reveal so his habits may differ bcs his character was supposed to be different BUT STILL. IM ALLOWED TO THINK.
