just caught up on to be hero x!! They're setting up an unsettling pattern of Lin Ling taking a chance to be vulnerable and express his concerns and imperfections, only for the people he thought would understand to literally dismiss and leave him. I wonder if this is a consequence of the perception of Nice, or if it's more central to Lin Ling? Since the series opens with Lin Ling being honest and vulnerable and then being abandoned... But also, such an insidious way for the perception to force Nice back into the mold of perfection, if no one can acknowledge or accept that he's not perfect. I mean, it took a single villain AGES and shaking trust in the very concept of heroes for Firm Man to be allowed to kneel enough to be freed of his LITERAL SHACKLES of perception, and that villain really only could do it because she *knew* Firm Man was a person. What's it going to take for Nice to be free?

Imagine thinking you're soulmates with someone and then waking up one morning to find that someone moved to three cities over or smth means that you should go be with them. Mathematically, you'd be happier with them. Imagine the angst and the problems that become clear - is the character someone who would want the best for themselves and feel their relationship has been undermined now? Do they want to solve it with poly? Will they deny the plot-assisted forces of fate driving them to their new love until they go home from their business trip? Who knows!

Funny idea pitch: sumiisa backwards romance. What if they get married post-canon while they and everyone else are still getting over the whole "we saved the world!!!" high and haven't quite thought ahead to the picking up the pieces part. So the morning after they now suddenly have to navigate what their whole dynamic even Looks like now! Isami having second thoughts! Smith feeling embarrassed and adrift as he tries to manage his memories as Bravern with his memories as Smith- I bet he would Not have said some of the things he said to Isami if he thought he was coming back. And certainly not if he thought he was going to have a shotgun wedding. But then also Isami being like we are NOT getting divorced even if I can't handle holding hands right now. Dating while married in the apocalypse.
