Currently I'm still struggling through the Stargate Atlantis one-shot I'm writing for this month's ASPEC Year and GATEathon challenges. I know writing one entry and submitting it to both might be cheesy, but this year's been so crazy busy I'd have fallen out of the race otherwise.

Sheppard's people skills weren't as bad as he made them out to be. A childhood growing up among the financial elite had taught him not only the importance of being able to both read and manipulate a room, but also the skill to disguise your ability to do so and the fortitude to lull those around you into a false sense of security. So he allowed those around him to believe he was an average arrogant Air Force officer - Afghanistan - a withdrawn PTSD-ridden introvert - Antarctica - and, since arriving on Atlantis, a flyboy with a Kirk complex. He excelled at becoming what those around him assumed him to be. Do not usurp expectations. Do not stand out from the crowd. Do not draw people's scrutiny.
