A Seonrok modern-day chaebol/gun-for-hire fic that Iβm starting
Whenever the extensive grapevine of Seoulβs elite talked about the Nam family (cautiously, quietly), there were two juicy topics that inevitably arose: the heir apparent and the familyβs future. The two subjects were not necessarily considered to be one and the sameβNam Jeon was infamous for brutally cutting off trusted colleagues, relatives, and employees for minor infractions, so who was to say that his son (a bastard, at that) wouldnβt be one of those cases? It was hardly a secret that Nam Seonho was the son of the powerful chaebol Nam Jeon and a former housekeeper (whose name no one bothered to remember). Hardly a secret that the father and son couldnβt stand each other.
Rumors of the rift had only grown more prevalent after Nam Seonho entered Seoul National University under murky circumstances somehow involving his close friend Seo Hwi, a scholarship student at their prep school. The son of a long-dead disgraced military officer, Seo Hwi contacted his friends excitedly after he gained admission to SNU, but Seonhoβs social media had remained silent. It was a surprise, then, on the morning of orientation, when Seonho appeared on campus without Seo Hwi (sources in the Ihwaru network noted that the young man looked pale and agitated). Word spread quickly thst Seo Hwi had gone off to military service instead of the school heβd fought so hard to get into, leaving his sickly younger sister in his old friendβs care. Nothing more was said, officially at least.
For his part, Seonho kept his head down in social settings and his hand raised in business and political science courses. The mysterious circumstances surrounding Seo Hwiβs disappearance (although now and again there were reports of his success in the military) as well as Seonhoβs family background left him under an uneasy cloud that persisted until his senior year, when two unexpected events threatened to change the trajectory of the Nam familyβs future:
1.) Seo Hwi left the military and entered Seoul National University with a recommendation (some whispered bribe) from Yi Bang-won, of the Yi chaebol group.
2.) Seonho, who had steadfastly refused any sort of security and shied away from anyone outside of his family for years, suddenly acquired a tall, imposing bodyguard who never left his side.
The rumor mills of the elite perked up. Things seemed to be entering a new age around here.
