Review and thoughts on Sentry (2026) #3
Oof this one hurt again, so much. I have many thoughts on this issue so bear with me as I try to make it make sense. Obviously spoilers under the cut.
Sentry: Fallen Sun is such a weird comic. I just gave it a quick re-read and it's definitely a weird story, and I find even weirder the way Jenkins seems to avoid talking about it (at least on Reddit, he purposely ignored a few questions and tags about it, idk about twitter). I really can't stop having the feeling he simply got some informations on how and why Bob and Lindy died and just went along with it, and he doesn't like the result. His recent mentions of not even knowing that Lindy tried to kill Bob in Dark Avengers and of how Sentry was written in general just reinforce this theory I have.
Scout is there -and I'm genuinely glad Paul remembered about him- but also Scout wasn't even mentioned in the 2005 series, and I can't help but wonder why. And while seeing the other heroes and "friends" remembering Bob is lovely and sad on a surface level, everything comes off as less genuine and very naive given how Bendis completely ignored and erased all of Bob's relationships with them (fuck u Bendis). My favourite thing about the comic is Thor visiting Bob's mom, that scene is beautiful, especially because it was Thor who had to kill Bob and he feels guilty about it. Then we have that mention of Bob's thing with Rogue which is awkwardly random and quite distasteful imo, glad we all agree on this.
But overall it's a collection of characters pouring out their love for Bob and expressing their failures as friends, remembering adventures we never really saw, and trying to make him a hero again... I can't help but wonder if Jenkins felt like he himself failed at giving Sentry a proper space and connections with a true meaning in the Marvel universe (while he only got used as a villain and Osborn's sidekick for years) and this was his last attempt at giving Robert some love. Iirc this was a time when he was already distancing himself from Marvel and in burnout. The burnout is evident I fear.
I still wonder what Reed read in the diary. Guess we'll never know.
Theories could go from existential reality warping stuff to Lindy being pregnant, place your bets.
ahahhhh did i ever post my comic boblindy fic here... its got werewolf bob!!!!! only 3 chapters in but im steadily working on it :-)
