DINOSAURS: A DISCUSSION ON ROBOTS AND SOULS
Dinosaurs are still around. They are almost entirely in the Feywild, though that doesn't mean they haven't also likely been peppered into other planes. A large portion of dinosaurs, however, are completely robotic! In fact, many animals exist as robots. The possible origins of their robot bodies are just as varied as the possible personal backgrounds for any other being, but they must also have a soul. Unfortunately, animallike souls simply cannot be artificially created (yet), so whatever is responsible for creating a particular robo-animal must acquire a soul to use. This is typically either siphoned out of a creature who is still alive (state of health is largely inconsequential), or plucked out of the zeitgeist itself if the creature has passed away.
Both of these methods have far broader applications than the simple creation of robotic animals, though. First of all, sentient robots are essentially identical to sentient items. Beyond that, this soul transferring could also be used to revive or reincarnate someone - which, again, is essentially identical to the above mentioned applications. This kind of soul manipulation is what forms the basis for Necromancy, actually!
Anyways, the robot dinosaurs are largely anomalous in nature. Nobody is quite sure who designed or built them, nor when - and especially not why. They occasionally wreak havoc in cities, but usually remain relatively conscientious of their surroundings. The vast majority of them prowl ruins in the Feywild, some types apparently feeding(?) off of the minerals therein and others seemingly arbitrarily mauling unexpecting creatures who wander within the border of their zone. Interestingly, the different dinosaur-bot groups still seem to exercise territorial control, herd/pack tactics, and other dinosaurlike instincts just as any dinosaur would, despite appearing to have been created and designed by the same mind.
