My Heart Was Never Small. It Was Just Deep.
For most of my life, I thought something was wrong with me.
I watched people around me express love so easily — loud affection, open warmth, effortless emotional display — and I wondered why I couldn’t be like that. Why I stayed in the background. Why I observed instead of performing. Why did my feelings live in silence instead of spectacle?
I thought my heart was small.
I thought I was cold.
I thought I was the Grinch with a heart two sizes too small.
But recently, something shifted. A dream from years ago resurfaced. A dream where I was an immortal priestess with cosmic siblings, rescuing lost souls from an underworld that twisted them into versions of themselves they didn’t recognize. A dream where I carried responsibility across eons, where I protected the youngest with fierce devotion, where I loved even the ones who accused me of abandoning them.
And suddenly, I understood something I had never seen clearly before:
My heart was never small. It was vast. It was deep.
And deep hearts don’t look like loud hearts.
Loud hearts and deep hearts are not the same thing
Some people love loudly.
They hug easily. They say “I love you” without hesitation. They express affection in ways the world recognizes instantly. Their hearts are visible, external, broadcasted.
And that’s beautiful.
But it’s not the only way to love.
Some hearts are not loud. Some hearts are quiet. Not because they’re small, but because they’re deep.
Deep hearts don’t shout. They echo.
They don’t flare. They burn steady.
They don’t perform. They witness.
They don’t overflow outward. They expand inward.
A deep heart is not measured by how loudly it expresses love, but by how far its love reaches.
And mine reaches far. Farther than I ever realized.
I learned to mistake depth for absence
I’ve been cultivating Daoism for a decade. Before that, I walked the path of witchcraft. My emotional world has always been shaped by stillness, intuition, observation, and inner alchemy.
Daoism teaches softness. It teaches non‑attachment. It teaches quiet strength. It teaches feeling without clinging. It teaches presence without performance.
When you live that way long enough, your emotions become subtle. Your love becomes steady. Your heart becomes deep.
But from the outside, depth looks like distance.
People with loud hearts are easy to read. People with deep hearts are easy to misunderstand.
I wasn’t cold. I was quiet.
I wasn’t detached. I was discerning.
I wasn’t unfeeling. I was feeling too much, too deeply, too silently.
The ice shield wasn’t coldness — it was protection
I built an ice shield around my heart not because it was small, but because it was sensitive.
People with small hearts don’t need shields. People with deep hearts do.
I learned early — in this life and maybe others — that showing my emotions openly made me vulnerable to:
being drained, being used, being misunderstood, being taken for granted, being expected to carry everything
So I learned to hold my feelings inside. I learned to love quietly. I learned to protect myself by appearing colder than I was.
But the shield didn’t mean my heart was frozen. It meant my heart was precious.
My dream revealed the truth: my emotional world is cosmic
In the dream, I had hundreds, thousands of siblings. I carried their pain. I rescued the ones who were lost. I protected the youngest with a devotion that felt older than time. I loved even the ones who had twisted themselves into something unrecognizable.
That is not the dream of someone with a small heart.
That is the dream of someone whose emotional world is so vast that the psyche had to use myth to express it.
People with small hearts don’t dream of temples and underworlds. People with small hearts don’t dream of cosmic responsibility. People with small hearts don’t dream in archetypes.
My dream wasn’t fantasy. It was a mirror.
It showed me the scale of my inner world. A world I had spent years underestimating.
My heart isn’t loud. It’s deep with silence.
I don’t love like others. I don’t express myself like others. I don’t open easily. I don’t trust quickly.
But when I love, I love with:
loyalty, presence, protection, depth, intuition, steadiness, and soul‑level connection
My heart isn’t small. It’s selective.
It doesn’t open for everyone. It opens for the few who feel like home.
And that’s not a flaw. That’s discernment.
The truth I finally understand
I was never the Grinch. I was the mountain lake — still on the surface, deep beyond measure.
I was never cold. I was cautious.
I was never unfeeling. I was overflowing in ways the world couldn’t see.
I was never heartless. I was heart‑full in a way that required silence to survive.
My heart was never small. It was just deep.
And now that I know that, I can finally stop apologizing for the way I love.
I am so ready to meet Yahya in this role and more of this character's thoughts.
