@sensesdialedâ because we love pain
Kamado regains consciousness beneath slabs of concrete.Â
Her ears are ringing, head is pounding, and sheâs too dizzy to tell which way is up. Even if she could, thereâs barely any room to move. She closes her eyes and tries taking deep breaths, but itâs too claustrophobic in here. Everything is too dark in here to tell a difference anyway.Â
Kamado reminds herself that she is alive. She tells herself that Peter is alive. And until that is proven otherwise, sheâs thankful. Â
Thereâs a shred of grey daylight just ahead of her.
Kamado has no idea how long itâs been since woke up down here. What she does know is the plan that been mulling in her head ever since then. Her dizziness has subsided, for the moment, and now she has an end point.Â
With excruciating slowness, Kamado pulls herself forward by her forearms, grimacing as debris digs into her skin. She chokes on ash coating the ground. Everything aches. The back of her mind comments that Madame Kineticâs costume is probably ruined, too. Sheâs been planning on making a fancy new one with Peter, but sheâs been nervous about the change. Kamado doesnât think anything else will scare her now.
Kamado is alive. Peter is alive, too- she can feel it. For that, she is grateful.Â
There is no sun to greet her when Kamado emerges.Â
The sky seems choking on the air as well. Still, itâs better than whatever Kamado was breathing inside that hellhole. Her body is shaking too much to stand, so she rests on the ground for a while.Â
Despite the ringing ears and pounding head that plague her, Kamado can feel the eerie quiet. She had personally done a sweep to make sure everyone had evacuated. There would be no search party. Kamado refuses to die, so that means reserving her strength to help her get out of here.Â
Kamado forces herself to sit up. She bites back a scream at the biting pain everywhere, but she canât endure lying down any longer. A part of Kamado tells her to do an assessment, but sheâs too tired. That can happen later.Â
Then, a distant figure clad in the familiar blue and red swings into view, a beacon amongst the rubble and smoke.
She nearly sobs in gratitude.
