Hello everyone and hope you’re doing well. Here we are, another Monday and another book haul. This particular haul is a bit of a love letter to @charcopress my new favourite publisher. I bought two copies of all four of these books - one set for me 😂 and one set for bestie @keeperofpages for Christmas. The Wind That Lays Waste is written by the same author of Brickmakers, one of my favourite reads of 2022. I had to try something else by her! This is her debut and described as a “taut, lyrical portrait of four people thrown together on a single day in rural Argentina…its limpid and confident prose, is profound and poetic, a tactile experience of the mountain, the sun, the squat trees, the broken cars, the sweat-stained shirts and the destroyed lives.” The bottom three, all by Ariana Harwicz are part of a loose trilogy. Die My Love follows a woman in a forgotten patch of French countryside. “A woman is battling her demons embracing seclusion yet wanting to belong, craving freedom whilst feeling trapped, yearning for family life but at the same time wanting to burn the entire house down.” In Feebleminded, “Harwicz drags us to the border between fascination and discomfort as she explores aspects of desire, need and dependency through the dynamics between a mother and her daughter.” Finally in Tender, the third in the author’s “involuntary trilogy,” she builds “an interior world so robust, and so grotesque, that it eclipses our shared reality.
