Self love is a revolutionary act & never before have I seen myself so readily & expansively in social discourse. Usually it is in the work of other black, trans, &/or non binary women that I see reflected back at me, the rooting & purging of internalized bias which is at the core of my trauma & integration. On their pages, in their articles/feeds they hold sacred space. More & more & more I feel my maternal ancestors Mattie & Dorothy at my back, sides, & front, encircling me in their wards of protection. Sometimes I have felt the need to tamp down my anger, sadness, or indignation to protect & center whiteness. In recognizing how important it is for me to make space for my varied emotional expressions, to witness myself in technicolor, I am centering my healing & integration again & again & again. For example I used to always feel the need to be an open book for white people but now I am committing to walking or stepping away when I feel my body telling me through through physiological stress responses that I'm tamping or tending to others needs at the expense of my own.
