Critical Role stimboard: Sehanine, The Moonweaver

Their magic. In the Artagan comics their magic were blue flames rimmed with black. Blue flames usually signify burning very hot and very concentrated. So perhaps they are either like Ludinus very focused on one specific goal or they are very passionate about certain principles or interests of theirs. The black could mean a lot. My best guesses are grief, disconnect or lack of visibility.

That piercing or whatever is on their temple. It’s in such a specific spot that is so heavily connected to insight/the third eye. And then I reread Domains of Delight specifically the Archfey section. Among the options of Signature Magic there is a Scrying Eye that is removable and has true sight. (Though Dream Walk is also a strong options for them.) I am not sure if one of their eyes is actually removable or if that piercing is actually a magical eye but I think it makes sense that they would have Truesight. Especially considering the absurdly long eardecor that kinda look like Antennas. Like… all the piercings are at places associated with perception. And it would make sense for the Archfey of the secretive and illusionist Unseelie, They-Who-Walk-Unseen, to not fall for their own areas of expertise.

Morrigan calls them moody. It’s such an interesting choice to use moody. Not overly emotional. Not wild. Moody. Which is associated with grief and melancholy. Like why would they tend to melancholy? What would grief them so? (I mean Zathuda was the SORROWlord so that seems to be an Unseelie theme…)

In the Artagan comic we learn that they are responsible for the Bespelled Gem, the worst Fey prison. I keep wondering about that. Did they inherit it? Or did they create it? My two guesses are either Sehanine gave it to them, which would make the Gem subject to one of the many contracts and deals the Unseelie have with her. It could be the cause of their grief and the reason why the Unseelie specifically are so keen of getting rid of their nature. Or my second bet: Sammanar themselves created it. They seem like the type to do something like it. During the court scene they were the one talking the most, organizing the proceedings, being the most incensed by Artagan not taking the trial seriously and also the one who spoke the final judgement and do the hammer thing. It’s just… they very clearly have a strong sense of justice. If said sense of justice (or the unfulfillement of it) hurted them enough they might have very well created the Gem to make up for it. For other’s to finally feel their pain, to understand their suffering. If that part is true I will probably also headcanon them as autistic.

Also just noticing that there were a lot of moments when Sammanar expressed emotions. But in a degreed that seemed reasonable, poised. Like they reigned themselves in. I always say with anger it’s like with feral dogs. You don’t feel the most fear when they are already let loose (bc you will be preoccupied running for your life) or when you don’t see them. No, the moment of most fear is that instant when you seem them snapping and pulling at their leash and you don’t know if they will tear themselves free at any moment or not. If you will have to run or not. If you reign your anger in like that, people will be more terrified of it. Because they know it’s entirely under your control but they don’t know what it will actually look like. Sammanar seems like a very good example of it.

Which brings me to the next part: They seem the most Unseelie in abilities but like the least in personality. Like their investment in court proceedings? Their calm perhaps even cold demeanor? Their excessive self-isolation? Maybe they are like a neurodivergent Fey. Or maybe if they are the most Unseelie in abilities they simply have to look the least Unseelie courtesy to the Unseelie’s association with illusions and secrecy. And it’s not only physical but also an emotional illusion. (This honestly has a lot of parallels to autistic masking.)
