13&14 July 2021 - logging 2nd and 3rd day of a productive week
Today was a good reading day! I finally finished a book that was taking me AGES to finish, and I got through a bit more reading after that. I’m feeling optimistic and I know that my mental health is improving a lot. So far I’ve been successful at keeping true to the goals I’ve set myself for this week. I’ve finished 2 sections of Turkish and will be starting a new one tomorrow. I’m being consistent with the Pomodoro Timer. Things are going fine ~
✨ 2021 Summer Studying Challenge! ✨ Days 5-8
5th July - Do you have any special plans or activities for this summer?
Not at the moment, sadly. My boyfriend was originally planning to come visit in early august but he just started a new job (sad I have to wait longer, but super excited that he got an amazing job offer in his new career!) so nothing solid at the moment, maybe a weekend getaway at some point.
6th July - What do you usually do during the summer? Is anything different this year?
So...... time is all a blur in grad school lol. Since I started in fall of 2018 I haven’t really had a ‘summer vacation’. All I really do is maybe allow more time to sleep and watch Turkish series... occasionally...
7th July - What did you do during the summer when you were a young child?
I grew up in Florida, so Disney World was pretty much our summer home when we had the means to go :D
8th July - What’s your happiest summer memory from your childhood?
Is it bad that I don’t recall too many childhood memories? XD hm... I would say maybe when I went to Minnesota with my mom because I got to see a new place and it was beautiful. Haven’t been to too many places outside of Florida, sadly.
Off to bed now ~
Today I am very very stressed out. I don’t know why, but I feel incredibly underprepared for International Relations (one of my fave papers this semester). I finished all my notes a week in advance, I have done the past exam (there’s only one because this is the second year this paper has been available) and did pretty well in it, I had a good night sleep (went to bed before 10:30pm which is a huge accomplishment for me lol), but yeah I don’t know. Jordana is stressy and depressy :) I had my statistics exam yesterday morning and that went well, and I have a day break before my final exam which is Cell Biology. Hopefully I can shake this feeling before then :/

from Gendering Global Conflict by Laura Sjoberg
States and state policymakers expend quite a bit of energy and resources thinking through the signals they send to other states. States also develop creative ways to reveal or disguise their intentions, be it to conquer land, develop a rapprochement with an enemy, or instill confidence in a nervous neighbor. On the receiving end, much energy is spent by policymakers, and ink spilt by analysts, attempting to understand whether states genuinely mean what they say and are representing their intentions in good faith.

i’m pretty sure i’m doing this 100 days of productivity in the most unconventional way possible. I don’t think it was meant to be done this way, haha. welp...
started the second week of the fall semester today. I shared the news about my grandma with my professors and they have all been so kind. i’m trying to keep my head up and focus as much as possible.
today’s lecture was called security studies and strategic thinking: evolution & assumptions.
off to bed now... have a good night everyone.

Penetratio Mollis: De Securitate Simulata, Autonomia Erosa et Militarizatione Invisibili in Structuris Europaeis Contemporaneis
Abstract This follow-up study examines the extent to which contemporary European structures have been penetrated not through overt coercion but via soft, normalized mechanisms: knowledgized surveillance, social media integration, asymmetrical trade agreements, and embedded military-security dependencies. The paper advances the hypothesis that Europe has gradually exchanged autonomy for perceived…
