Fun with the kiddo.
(via Spiders Blamed For Regularly Setting Off Security Alarm At Night That Plays Creepy Sounding Nursery Rhymes - Geekologie)
This is a video captured from Ipswitch, Suffolk, England of a security alarm in an industrial park that was set off by spiders and plays 'It's Raining, It's Pouring' over and over. Apparently this went on almost nightly for months before one concerned mother finally called authorities. For reference, if this had happened in the United States the authorities would have been called at least four dozen times the first night.
The town council identified the loudspeaker that was playing the songs, and traced it back to a motion-detector connected to the system that was being triggered by spider activity. Admittedly, that's a pretty solid security system...
I’m not sure that I would feel less creeped out upon hearing that the security was being set off by spiders. Especially in Ipswitch.
By the way, why is the security alarm a tinny rendition of a nursery rhyme? Was that supposed to make it less unsettling or annoying than a typical alarm? Don’t you want people to take note of, and respond to, an alarm sounding?
Choosing the Best Homeowner Security Alarm Systems The homeowner security alarm systems are those systems designed to detect intrusion, unauthorized entry into your building or any part of your apartment.

Home Security Statistics in New Zealand: Why Every Home Should Have a Modern Alarm System
Most break-ins don't happen because the burglar chose your home specifically. They happen because your house looked too easy to intrude on compared to the one in the neighbourhood. And in this scenario, Residential Security Alarm systems come into play as it creates a fear of being heard among the burglars.
With New Zealand witnessing tens of thousands of burglaries a year, a home security alarm is no longer a nice-to-have accessory; it has become the ultimate decider of whether your residence is the next target.
Burglary Stats in New Zealand
The good news is burglary rates are dropping nationally, but the numbers below show the complete side of the story:
●58,460 burglaries were recorded nationally in 2025 alone, making an average of 160 a day.
●9% of NZ households were burgled in the past year.
●Burglaries spike 25-35% over the summer holiday period, when there’s no one in the home.
●Auckland accounts for roughly 31% of all burglaries nationwide by volume.
The trend is improving by the year, but it doesn't really mean that your home could not be the next target.
Why Does Every Home Need An Alarm System?
The value of a modern alarm system is way beyond just monitoring your home. Here’s how it helps:
Helps act faster: Sensors immediately activate when a door or window is forced open, alerting people.
Acts as a Backup: An Alarm Monitoring causes the response centre to verify the alert and contact you immediately, even when notifications don't appear.
Deters Burglar: The door keypad and the sensor light are enough to send burglars away from your home.
Works when you’re away from home: A Home Security Alarm Auckland works 24/7, even when you're on holiday or at work.
Discounted Insurance: In risky suburbs, many NZ insurers offer discounted premiums for monitored alarm systems.
Works as Solid Evidence: A CCTV and Alarm System support during insurance claims and strengthens your case.
Signs That You Actually Need to Upgrade
Many Auckland homes still run outdated alarm systems that create a lot of issues, including:
●If your alarm works with a copper phone line, then cutting the line can disable the system entirely.
●If you have added a new slider or built an extension, then these spots are more likely to be missed when being monitored.
●The old Burglar Alarm system only activates a siren locally, and if you have missed it, it does nothing.
●Older motion sensors can't tell the difference between a human and a pet. So, if your pet activates the system, it will cause a false alarm and gradually train you not to use it at all.
How To Choose the Best Home Security Alarm?
Getting the ideal alarm system for your home depends on how you actually live in the house and whether you have pets.
●If your home remains empty most of the time, monitoring is a priority.
●If you have pets, get a pet-friendly, sensored Home Security System.
● Wired systems are ideal for construction, while wireless systems are for existing homes.
● A smart alarm system lets you check footage and arm/disram remotely from the phone.

A CCTV and Security Alarm Installation Auckland process involves the home's wiring, so it is suggested to be done by professionals. You should consider EWRB-licensed electricians to install security alarms and CCTV across Auckland, as they have the right qualifications to do it safely with no guesswork.
