And when you met her after that she might look and stand off tough and bitchy , but she’s a very nice person unless you talk about ha mama and her family she don’t play around when it comes to them. I was whispering to my self, looking at the waters over the bridge , but I heard people keke keying and I turned around and when I did , they stopped laughed and looked the around way. “I think she heard us” a girl whispered tapping on one of the boys arms . You got on your tippy toes kinda creasing your Jordan’s with your hands in your pocket you took a sip of my coke and put in my tote bag and headed their way “oh shit” the girl said. You pushed through the 2-3 boys to get to the couple boys and the girl in the middle “is it a problem?” You put your hand out . “no , wassup witchu?” A boy said kinda hitting your arm harshly .

“don’t fucking touch me nigga” you shoved him back “my bad shorty” he surrendered . ”woah woah woah calm down” the girl said . “What’s yo name since you telling me what to do? “Nish leigh? You..” “Y/n, Y/l/n” “cool..”nish said embarrassed , so you nodded awkwardly . “Anyway , why was y’all laughing and pointing at me for?” You asked . “we just thought you were cute” “you can think that I’m cute without doing all that shit y’all did” “ok ok , just leave her alone she obviously don’t want y’all-“ nish said pushing them back slightly. “who said I don’t?” You shot back at her .

“ouuuu” came from every boys mouth from them covering it with her fist. “Aht aht , I don’t need all the ouus and ahhs” “How old are y’all?” Almost 18 came out of everyone’s mouth . But then you pointed to nish who was quiet “you?” “19..” you got a shock of happiness inside of you but didn’t want to show it “oh..we’re the same age.” “18 is average I guess” you said tryna be funny . “You busy?” One of the boys asked you “you the one that kept asking questions now what’s YOUR name?” “Jaquez” “ok JAQUEZ , no I’m not busy.” “Oh Ight , tryna go to the gun range with us?” “Sure..” “I thought you would be scary frfr” “just because im a women doesn’t mean I always have to be scared to do shit , thank you.” All the boys looked at each other but nish had her hands in her pocket walking slowly behind them and you looked back to see her , “what’s wrong nish?” You came running back to her walking at her pace beside her .

“Sorry if I hurt your feelings Im just open-minded and like to speak my mind “ “exactly why I don’t talk to people or make the first move because you never know their vibe or energy” she gave you the stank face and looked you up and down “girl , I said I’m sorry come onnn” “and I said it’s alright , damn!” Some of the boys turned around to see if that was nish who just yelled “everything alright back there?” “Yeah..” you responded looking back at nish , still with her head down. “Fuck this” you whispered and left nish behind and walked beside the boys looking back at nish once again. When y’all got to the gun range y’all had y’all fits on and gloves and glasses but you wanted to change because you didn’t wanna make horizontal street clothes dirty you changed into a sleeveless t-shirt and cargo shorts and that always attractive the women .

(You enjoyed it lol) even attracted nish and you can tell . She kept giving you looks while y’all were having fun waiting for her turn , her and her low eyes wondering is so cute , you saw her doing that again and laughed quietly then turning back to focus to the target . You positioned your self squinted trying to line up with the card board . When you shot the gun most of the boys was impressed even nish she had stepped up closer and everything ! and the reason why they were impressed was cause you didn’t jerk slightly whirl shooting it like you been pro at it (which you were) “oh Okayy I see youu” Jaquez patted on your back , but you took it nicely this time . “Thank you” you patted his hand that was near your shoulder smiling . You turned around seeing nish watching zoned out . “Hey.” You waved your hand in her face “hm?” “Wanna try?” You took off your face gear and handed her the pistol . “I guess , haven’t shot in a while “ after she shot the bullets Everyone was hungry , she took her couple of shots and you were proud with your eyebrow raised in satisfaction. “Good job!” You gave her a high five .

If you have read Carrie Clarke’s books, you have come to expect a little sweet, a lot of swoon, and more spice than you can handle! Her books always find a way to make you laugh and make you feel. Her characters aren’t the best version of themselves, the people we wish we were, the people we would envy. They are real, they are relatable, they have flaws, insecurities, struggles, and hardships. What I love about how Carrie writes is that they don’t magically overcome them or dismiss them – we learn how their biggest fears drive them and how their disadvantages motivate them. Always inspired by the stories Carrie crafts, A Capacity For Falling in Love teach us how prospective and expectations can be a blessing and a curse – propelling us forward or hindering us from ever being able to reach out full potential. While each book is a standalone, they do overlap in some ways either in terms of timeline, characters, or a social gathering reference (love the story point connection in all three books). I highly recommend starting with The Art of Falling in Love – especially since Lulu (from Book #1) plays such an active role in this book as Rosanna’s best friend.

The moments I walked away from this book were only to reset and re-center to keep going – that is how much is captures your attention. You feel like you know these characters, care about these characters, and want nothing but the best for them (or to watch those who hurt them get what’s coming to them). I know this book is just coming out but I am already anticipating Carrie’s next one (looking at you Will!)
