Went for a little grey seal spotting at Horsey Gap today. Didn't get many photos of them though - too far away for my tiny lense! . . . . #photography #amateurphotography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #seals #seal #greyseal #greyseals #greysealpups #sealpups #horseygap #horsey #norfolk #norfolkcoast #grassland #sky #bluesky #nikon #NikonD80 (at Horsey Gap) https://www.instagram.com/p/B66Vq0sH4s7/?igshid=c5k0azv7msm8
Decided to make a seal pup. They are so adorable ☺️ I also realized that I haven’t made brooches for a long time . November 2019 - Horsey Gap, Norfolk, East of England
“Nothing quite prepares you for the sight that you’re faced with once over the dunes and onto the viewing platform” says an article on ExploreNorfolk.co.uk, and it is indeed so! It truly is a remarkable experience to see these beautiful creatures so close by. From late October through to mid January seal mums swim across the frigid waters of the North sea to come to this beach to give birth to their pups. The white and fluffy pups are nursed on their mother’s milk which is made up of up to 60% fat, growing to four times their birth size.
It’s easy to spot big males fighting on the shore to get the right to mate. In fact the birth season and the breeding season happen at the same time: the ready-to-mate males and birthing females will stay ashore for the entire time, feeding off of their fat reserves to stay alive. In a month time the pups will change their fur into a grey(ish) waterproof coat and will head off to sea to provide for themselves. The females will then mate at the end of the season, ready to return the next year with another pup ready to be born. What a story!
These are 2 shots taken from the roped-off viewing platform on a November afternoon: In the first photo you’ll see a mum and her pup sleeping next to each other and the second one depicts a little seal pup dozing before calling mum for his next meal.

Good luck! My photo here shows Harp Seal Pups Kissing! Two harp seal pups meet each other on the pack ice in Canada’s Gulf of St. Lawrence and are touching noses as they sniff one another. Pups are generally born in this region during February and need to spend about two weeks nursing from their moms before they head off on their own. #climatechange #canada #sealpups #babyanimals https://www.instagram.com/p/BuEeFUnhFtr/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=6wiid59c4grv
