fic like. collin needs to be good. no distractions. doesn’t matter that he played first line minutes and is a penalty kill demon. he still needs to prove himself. he will forever feel like he needs to prove that his spot on the team is something he deserves and has earned. he needs to stay focused, eyes always on the prize.
except there’s a major distraction. there’s a 6’3 canadian distraction. who just won’t leave him alone. and somewhere along the way, the prize he was supposed to be following religiously becomes something different. fantasies about the cup turn into fantasies about someone with a canadian accent and a really annoying need to fill silences collin has never bothered to fill.
and it’s like. the only reason why sam takes an interest in collin is because he gets bored of misa. not in a bad way. he loves misa. misa is his best friend. but misa doesn’t banter with him as well as his teammates on the knights could. he doesn’t make sam put his head down, doesn’t know how to make him snap into focus when sam gets too distracted by the novelty of the nhl, the privileges of it. living alone, being on the apps. he needs balance. and misa can barely balance himself. he can’t balance sam too. but collin is always so level-headed. and he flicks sam on the forehead once, says pay attention while they’re watching tape, and sam’s brain lags. it goes quiet. and he’s like thisthisthisthis. so he latches on to him, and collin has no idea why. obviously. because in his head, he’s just kind of rude to sam every once in a while. but sam pokes and prods. sits as close as possible, tries to disturb collin as much as he can, and collin always knows what’ll stop him in his tracks. a hand on his thigh, a tug on his earlobe, be quiet, sam, jesus christ. so now sam wants to see what will make collin snap. he notices the tightness of his jaw, the way he narrows his eyes at him sometimes, but nothing ever really shakes him. it’s always smoothed over. except the one time sam mentions hooking up. collin says something like no one needs to know where your dick’s been, man. but sam gets the impression that collin might want to know. so he yaps and yaps and yaps. and collin loses his patience. bends him over, etc, etc.
and this happens at a (spins wheel) get-together at toff’s. so they need to be quiet. and careful. and sneaking around is so fun they keep doing it. collin needs to keep it a secret, because everything he’s worked for could be taken away if the wrong person found out about the way he gets to put sam over his knee. and dickie is vibrating at insane frequencies to tell someone. bc this is the best sex he’s had in his entire life. and who knew collin graf could move like that.
i would assume it backfires at some point. but by then they’re already in too deep, like each other too much to ever go back to the way things were before.
saying he dabbles in everything and can’t be versed in just one thing and does his best his teach misa is a beautiful metaphor for bisexuality. thanks, sam.
lowkey thinking about sam putting himself out there in the loudest possible way. making himself likeable for the cameras so he’ll be chosen for tiktok challenges and invited on podcasts and cast as the media darling. pretending he only has to smile to win a game. hanging out with misa because they’ll surely be the butt of a joke and as long as he’s being made fun of, he’s got eyes on him. and if people are paying attention to him, he exists. there’s something so will smith coded about him—both of them make up for the lack of confidence by being cocky, almost in a delusional way. they both have to be wanted or else nothing makes sense.
and i think this is really interesting from a sam-and-misa versus sam-and-somebody-else perspective too. because i feel like misa is never going to give him what he needs. he serves his purpose for now —misa really needs him and so the part of sam being wanted is a need that’s being met—but when things eventually get hard for sam, like they might have gotten at worlds when he wasn’t playing, or when he gets a little bit bitter that he was mack’s captain and now mack’s going to captain then for (hopefully) the rest of their careers, i can’t imagine misa knowing what to do. and it’s also so interesting that they’re loud and messy together when sam’s already loud and messy by himself. i think he would really benefit from someone being more of a steady presence. someone who drains him all of that crazy energy in a healthy, helpful way. someone he can be quiet with.
i have something to say about the dickie-mack of it all but some of you are not going to like it

i keep rotating dickie in my head. i think he would be very fun and interesting to write. like there has to be something seriously wrong behind all that cockiness. what’s his issue. need to know. desperately.
I AM READY TO HEAR ABOUT THE DICKIE-MACK OF IT ALL 👂🏻
well, since you’re asking…
the thing that opened my third eye was sam telling mis “nooo, do not even try that” when misa was trying to say he was better at sewer. and then you compare it to the clip of will going “nope! let’s cut the video” when mack was trying to tell him he was better than him at golf, soccer, basketball, etc. and it’s like oh! there’s a 0 cockiness gap between sam and will. which is like. so different to the monumental gap between mack and will. like of course, mack is good at hockey, and i would say he’s pretty confident, but he’s not cocky in the way will and sam are.
it’s pretty obvious that their brattiness and—sometimes delusional—cockiness gets mack off more than anything else. if we wanted to get tender, this just goes on to show how different everything between will and mack is. if mack wanted an easy, bratty hookup, he could have dickie, no questions asked. but will’s so much more than that. HOWEVER. i’m not here to get soft today. all i’m saying is i’m not at all surprised that media darling sam dickinson and prince charming will smith have mack wrapped around their fingers.
and if we add sid’s jersey to the mix…i can’t imagine dickie hasn’t been half hard this entire time, glancing between sid and mack in the locker room, trying to commit it all to memory, because it’s definitely the last time he’ll ever gets this. and obviously sam, or anyone else, wearing an 87 jersey is always going to do it for mack. mack, who’s been trying so hard not to step on anyone’s toes, to ignore the power trip of the c. he doesn’t have to ignore it with sam. and he wouldn’t have to ignore it with will. and that’s enough for him to let go.
idk. i just think they should have dickie as a third every once in a while. and also i hope mack sucked his dick last night and told will all about it. idk. idk.
