joseph’s father had trained him for this moment — traveling across the world and forced to watch the man work (and practically steal from everyone he helped with his exorbitant prices). but, now his father had told him it was time for his own test. it was supposed to be easy — as the man patronized him — as the dragon needing removed was only a ‘baby’ compared to the dragon’s father that used to dwell in its place. joseph was as prepared as he could be as he traversed the thick forest that bordered the helpless town. however, he happened upon a lonely manor that looked to be forgotten yet still stood strong. curiosity had him temporarily abandoning his quest as he pushed through the front door. he moved carefully, growing more and more sure that it was truly empty until he saw movement in the corner of his eye. he turned quickly and pointed his sword only to lower it slightly. a man? “what is this place? how have you survived out here?” he asked without second thought, sure the dragon would have destroyed it. the man’s eyes caught it attention — bright despite the darkness of the manor.
