BBC News - Gina Lollobrigida: Italian screen star dies at 95
Remembering Kirstie Louise Alley who died December 5, 2022 at the age of 71
Joan Blondell made six movies with James Cagney at Warner Brothers - more than any other individual actress. Cagney said that the only woman he loved other than his wife was Blondell.
Lillian Gish joined Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1925 and in 1926 they offered her a contract for six films, for which she was offered $1 million (equivalent to $17.8 million in 2024). She turned down the money, requesting a more modest wage and a percentage, so the studio could use the funds to increase the quality of her films—hiring the best actors, screenwriters, etc.
By the late silent era, Greta Garbo had surpassed her as MGM's leading lady, and Gish's contract with MGM ended in 1928. Considered a "sexless antique," she turned to radio and her first love, the theater.
Ironically, MGM had Greta Garbo on the set of The Scarlet Letter (1926) every day to watch Gish work as part of her apprenticeship.

Dolores appeared in numerous pictures throughout the 1910s and early 1920s. She was signed by Warner Bros. in 1924, where she met future husband John Barrymore, and he soon made Dolores his costar in The Sea Beast (1926). During their lengthy kissing scene, Dolores fainted in John's arms.
She spoke with a severe lisp until about 1930. When talkies replaced silent films, she worked with a speech pathologist for almost two years to get rid of her lisp.
The ’30s cloche also became known as the Garbo slouch hat. It was designed by Gilbert Adrian and worn by Greta Garbo in Woman of Affair, 1928.
Slouches and sportsters were a Garbo favorite hat style outside of the theater as well. Prior to her acting career, she had worked as a milliner’s assistant. She understood the artistry in hat making, but also the gentlemanly poise it took to wear a men’s hat style with grace.
Lupe Velez danced with Douglas Fairbanks in the movie The Gaucho (1927). It was so successful that Walt Disney was inspired to create a similar dance between Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.
