Idk why, but in my head I'm still going to love garrett even if he doesn't speak up. Yep, I'll definitely be disappointed but I won't stop loving that golden human because I know how much love and care is inside of him and he would never intentionally do anything to hurt someone. Am I too far up Garrett's ass or? :(
i feel like my english vocabulary is not complex enough for me to say this without being misunderstood but i’ll try anyway
you, me and everyone else are still probably going to keep loving garrett even though we (i am speaking for myself but i know my mutuals are too) are incredibly disappointed by him not speaking up. because unfortunately love (in any form) is quite hard to dismiss like that.
though, i am learning as i grow that as much as stan culture is very fun and as a not-neurotypical person represents a huge part of my life (see: hyperfixations), it’s not healthy.
it could be healthier if we realized that we don’t know them. we don’t know him. i can sit here and go “oh i am sure he is not racist” to make myself feel better, yeah, but thats not enough right not. that is not enough when half of america is burning down because humans can’t comprehend that everyone deserves the same rights, and clearly there are people that don’t have them and never did in the first place.
it’s incredibly disheartening as a fan to see garrett silent on this when he is vocal about his anti-republicanism, (which i have to say has sparked many questions in my mind) but i can’t even imagine how his poc fans must feel right now.
he is gay ffs, he knows what it’s like to have to fight for basic human rights, (black trans-women fought for our queer rights!!!!) and now that poc need us as allies to fight an even bigger battle, he can’t let them down. he has to use his white privilege to help.
tl;dr
you’re not a bad person for loving one of your idols but you need to recognize that they may not be as much of a good person as you think
