Writer Questions
✨writer questions:
Tagged by @scottxlogan. Thank you for the tag!
How many works do you have on AO3/Tumblr?
180 fics. Some of those aren't just mine - some are Round Robins I've gotten tugged into, and some are co-written fics with @scottxlogan, but I'll talk about that later.
What's your total AO3/Tumblr word count?
1,010,655. Holy crap, I didn't realize I'd reached the million words mark, much less went over it at all. I don't write fast or tons.
What fandoms do you write for?
Marvel mostly. X-Men and Avengers characters for the most part, but I have done some things with Stephen Strange. I've also written one (so far) Strangers Things fic (Steddie all the way), one teeny tiny little Hannibal drabble, a few other drabbles falling under The Lost Boys, Fright Night, and even one From Hell drabble. I used to write Jay and Silent Bob slash, but I have (with one exception in the recent past, and that was still technically a Marvel fic first and foremost) pretty much left that fandom far behind other than a few friendships I made and that are still friends. Sometimes I think I want to write fanfic for The Following, but the show was pretty damned perfect as is (other than I hated that we didn't get a fourth season), so I really don't know what I'd want to write. Oh and I wrote one small little Contrarywise/Trickster's Touch fanfic. Oh yeah, and I have that one M*A*S*H fic. I canNOT believe I wrote that one from one of my bestie's request way way way back in the Age of Livejournal.
What are your top five fics by kudos?
Far away you were made in a sea just like me - Part 1 of Hemispheres, a Loki/Tony Stark fic. This was actually supposed to be a one-shot from a prompt. Only I got to the end and realized that it could become a whole huge fic. My first 'epic', as it were, that is definitely not even close to being finished.
Supernaut - Part 1 of Light a candle, light a motive. This is also first and foremost a Frostiron series. This story started out a one-shot from a prompt, and the series has ended up a collection of one-shots from prompts that just go together. Post-Endgame, everyone lives (except Thanos), and Morgan is the child of Loki and Tony after Tony was rescued from space not by Carol but by Loki.
(Mis)Understanding and a No-Good Woman - The first ever Scott Summers/Logan fic I ever wrote and the second ever fic I put up on AO3. For those who know me, you'll understand who the No-Good Woman is, but she's barely mentioned in the story as I preferred to focus on the guys who could do so much better with each other than bother with her.
Hey Jealousy - Frostiron (if you squint). Takes place during Thor: Ragnarok, and it came about from the notion of Bruce wearing Tony's (extremely tight) pants, and the God of Mischief hearing this and having a jealous reaction to that. I don't think I ever intended to write more (or maybe I toyed with the idea but never have), but somehow it's one of my most popular fics.
A spirit with a vision (Is a dream with a mission) - Part 2 of Hemispheres.
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I respond to ALL comments unless they're spam, bots, or hateful little gremlins who think they have a right to tell me my writing is shit, critique my grammar/style, or that I should be raped or kill myself because they don't like one of my ships.
What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't write a lot of angsty endings - I much prefer angst with happy endings (oh gee, so vanilla and boring, I know, blah blah blah - fuck off), but I do have a few.
Time After Time - From a prompt from @scottxlogan of Time Displacement Shenanigans, it's a Scott/Logan fic that takes place both in The Wolverine setting (the past bits) and somewhat during X-Men 3: The Last Stand. It is NOT an X3 fix-it because Scott doesn't live in the X3 part, but he does show up in the past part while Logan is still in post-WWII Japan.
Sunset - Set during the Framework Timeline of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it is the Framework side ending where Framework Holden Radcliffe goes to the beach as the Framework is shutting down, only I decided he should have two more characters join him - Framework Antoine Triplett and Framework Grant Ward.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Okay look. Just about all my endings are happy. I can't even really think which ones would be the happiest. That said, two that I think have the warmest belly contented happy endings are these two:
A little shy and sad of eye but very wise was he - Frostiron established relationship fic where Loki returns to the tower after a grueling visit to Asgard with Thor, who decides to keep bullying Loki and humiliating him with his friends then stays behind in Asgard after Loki returns home. Loki just feels horrible, and Tony decides that he and the others need to comfort Loki and show that he's a part of their family even if Thor is a big bag of dicks. So Tony and the others build a huge blanket fort in the communal living room, order massive amounts of Chinese take-out, and watch all the musicals that Loki likes while cuddle-piling in the blanket fort.
and
sun is going down (sinking behind bridges in the road) - My (so far) one and only Stranger Things fic. Post-Season 4, Eddie Munson lives, is in a relationship with Steve, and the two of them are spending that summer with Corroded Coffin touring a bit on small bar gigs with Steve offering to play roadie. This one takes place in Austin, Texas, and the boys are having dinner and find out from their waitress that if they hurry down to the Congress Street Bridge to make it to sunset, they'll witness something amazing. The flight of the bats. And given that Eddie is still traumatized from the demo-bats attacking him - and yet he's always loved bats so much he has them tattooed on his arm - Steve wants to give him back that love of bats that aren't out to eat him alive.
Do you get hate on fics?
Oh yeah. Well, only bad hate on one fic - a Steve/Loki fic that everyone's nemesis decided to shit on because I dared to have Steve with Loki and Bucky with Tony. She told me how horrible I was to not have Bucky and Steve shipped with each other and then proceeded to tell me that she hoped that I was raped and that I should kill myself. Because she doesn't sign in, AO3 wouldn't do fuck-all about banning her.
I got another shitty ass comment on the last chapter I have up of Hemispheres (Part 3), which isn't finished - the person had been praising it over and over, and I warned them that the whole series wasn't finished yet and that Part 3 isn't even finished yet, and when they got to that part, they threw out, "Oh I see you've abandoned this fic. I wish I'd known so I wouldn't have bothered to read this and get invested. Oh well." Cunt.
One other person tried to tell me that I shouldn't use ellipses but instead M-dash and tried to "school" me on the proper way to write so that I didn't write like an "old person." Well, fuck you, little ass-bag. I am an old person who graduated Summa Cum Laude with an English and creative writing degree, and all my professors were fine with ellipses and didn't force the M-dash on us like they were Catholics at a pagan rave.
Do you write smut?
Yes, and while people in my close circle seem to like my smut and tell me how steamy hot it is, I know that my smut isn't well-liked by the greater vicinity of fandom because I (as a rule) never write BDSM or torture porn or a lot of the other trends that have become popular in fanfiction.
Do you write crossovers?
I actually do, as a matter of fact. Granted, one of those crossovers has only been mentioned once in Spinning on that dizzy edge (I kissed his face and kissed his head) when Tony mentions to Scott (Summers) - they've just gotten involved - that he had a fling with a guy out in California when they were both young, a guy by the name Chris Knight. I do intend to eventually write the Tony/Chris Knight fic, but it just hasn't exactly happened yet.
The other crossover I have that's actually already out there is Was Wisconsin really that bad? Crossover between the Loki series and Kevin Smith's Dogma. I really fucking HATED Jay and Silent Bob Reboot because they thought it would be funny to have Matt Damon's stupid angel of death (Loki) criticizing Marvel's (clearly FAKE) Loki with his "fake British accent." I took great umbridge over what they thought was funny, and when the Loki series had Loki and Mobius in Chicago and then hopping over to Wisconsin, I decided that this would be an excellent moment of closure from my writing in that other fandom again, and let's just say that Loki found a great use for Bartleby.
The other sort of crossover I have is a WIP that came about because of Brian Michael Bendis' travesty of a series, AvX (Avengers vs. X-Men). He really did turn Steve Rogers, Logan, Best, and the rest of the Avengers into jackbooted thugs in that series, so I started a fic called All American Barbecue. Essentially, Steve goes out to Utopia because he's gotten word that one of their mutant children (Hope) has gone missing. He shows up and turns his nose up at the mutants as he tries to find hope. Only it turns up a whole sort of sacrifice where Steve winds up in a Wicker Phoenix. Yes, this is a Marvel x Wicker Man crossover. Don't worry about Steve, though. He wasn't going to be all alone in that Wicker Phoenix when they set it on fire. Brian Michael Bendis was going to be right there with him.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I think once one of my fics was put onto Wattpad by some asshole. I just wrote to Wattpad, and they took it down.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I've had people ask to translate my fics, and I always said yes, esp if they credited it back to being my story. They always said they would, but I don't think anyone ever followed through.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Well, there are the Round Robins, but I don't really consider those to be co-written so much. But I've co-written several fics with @scottxlogan. The first one happened because the two of us co-mod three (Marvel) fandom bingos, and we organized Secret Santa events for a while, and naturally people flaked out and we'd have to pick up the slack to write the gifts that someone wouldn't have gotten otherwise. She started one fic and asked if I'd like to co-write it, and I did, so we wrote it, and despite our styles being pretty different, our writing meshed really really well.
The first one is Falling in love as the world falls down, a Scott/Logan fic that was a Secret Santa gift fic.
We've got two that need to be finished, so hopefully this year, we'll get them done - one is a Winterfrost AU and the other is a HUGE Marvel Pride fic.
But so far, my favorite of the ones we've co-written is this one:
The course of true love never did run smooth. This is a Frostiron + Scogan chaptered fic that ended up with such a Midsummer Night's Dream sort of playful twist that we used several lines from the play as title and chapter titles.
What's your favorite all-time ship?
No. I'm a multi-shipper, and I don't really have a favorite. I mean, I suppose I have almost a hierarchy of ships in a way? Loki/Tony, Steve/Tony, Steve/Bucky, Scott/Logan, Logan/Kurt, Emma Frost/Tony, Bobby Drake/John Allerdyce, but no. I really don't think I have a favorite-favorite.
What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
All American Barbecue, the Marvel/Wicker Man crossover. I've kind of moved beyond the rage over AvX, and I don't hate Steve Rogers anymore, so I'm not sure if I'll ever completely recapture that mood fueling that fic. We'll see. It could happen. Also I really want to finish Hemispheres, and I'll try my best, but if it winds up being bigger than I thought, it might not get fixed. Especially if I get more twatty comments claiming that I've abandoned it.
Are there recurring themes you've noticed in your writing?
I almost wish that someone else could answer this one, tbh. Acceptance is probably a theme - that sort of acceptance of a character who's done bad things that they were beyond their control to stop (Loki, Bucky, Tony, Emma Frost). Love, obviously. Found and Forged Family. Hurt/comfort. Humor - that doesn't seem to be a thing I can get away from most of the time. Easter Eggs - I refer to a lot of movie/TV characters played by the actors in the Marvel movies (especially), so they're like inside jokes if you've been on the inside of those references.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Oh I really wish someone else could answer this one for me because I'm not sure what I'd consider a weakness, really. Someone might say that I put too many "Easter eggs." LOL I don't edit closely before I post a fic because I'm just usually glad it's done and I'm ready for it to be out there, and that means when I go back and reread the fics on AO3, I end up correcting several annoying typos.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I don't do it a lot. Mostly I toss out endearments in other languages. Started with German phrases back when I wrote a lot more Kurt/Logan fics, and those have since been sort of edited for me by @stormxpadme who IS German, so I trust her not to steer me wrong. I've tried to toss in Russian endearments from Natasha or Bucky, a wavering between Norwegian and Icelandic endearments, mostly from Loki. I think it enhances a fic if someone can actually get the language from someone who knows how to speak it (if they're not speakers of that language themselves).
First fandom you wrote for?
I was 12/13, and the first finished fanfic I ever wrote was for Children of the Corn. Written on notebook paper in pencil (home computers weren't a thing yet - I was a teenager in the Stone Age, get over it), very much a Mary Sue. I probably still have that monstrosity packed away somewhere in a box.
Favorite fic you've ever written?
Again, I don't have a favorite. I love all my fanfic children equally. Why don't you tell me what YOUR favorite of my fics is?

WinterIron Reverse Bingo Fic:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Summary:
What was built in Wakanda should have fucking stayed in Wakanda, signed, a not at all jealous Tony Stark.
Even under the dim lights, Bucky knew from the moment he entered the skyscraper lounge that Tony Stark sat at a stool by the bar, nursing a cocktail, and wearing a scowl on his face.
Tony existed like a beacon even in the most mundane settings. Bucky could attribute the draw to his enhanced senses, but a part of him knew that he’d always been attracted to gorgeous people with excessive attitudes and too much gumption to know what to do with - and that was Tony Stark to a tee.
The scowl that was currently painted across Tony’s face existed because of Bucky.
