Path through the pines
Beddgelert
A juvenile Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris), which was making such a fuss on its branch, evidently calling for dinner from mum and dad! (I know this is not a very impressive bird photo, but I have no telephoto lens and the tree was pretty high) Surrey, UK, March 2026

When Algy woke the next morning he discovered that for once the weather birds' predictions had been absolutely spot on: torrential showers of rain and sleet had arrived on the first south-westerly winds for quite some time, breaking the unusually long spell of calm, dry winter weather which the wild west Highlands of Scotland had been enjoying while the southern and eastern areas of Britain were being drenched with seemingly never-ending rain.
Hopping up into a battered Scots Pine tree during a lull in the showers, Algy found that he had to cling tightly to the branches in order to avoid being blown off. He had almost got out of the way of maintaining his balance in such conditions, and as the wind repeatedly swept his face feathers into his eyes, and threatened to knock him off his perch, he rather wished that the calmer conditions had lasted a good deal longer…
