as the sun comes peering in through the window, it wasn’t the cause behind his eyes opening suddenly. instead it was the somewhat loud ringing of the other’s phone echoing in the room. as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes, he reached for it as it was closer to his side of the bed and he felt his heart sink when he saw the caller id. handing the phone to her without making any eye contact, he just spoke in a sleepy but somewhat sad voice. “jack is calling you.” he knew this day was going to happen but he didn’t think it’d be so soon after what happened between them last night.

they’d rented out an airbnb in order to have a weekend away to celebrate a friend’s birthday and for the most part fallon had been having a good time. she didn’t get on with everyone there, namely one person in particular, but for the most part they’d been able to avoid one another. until now  — stuck in the kitchen due to a faulty lock. their friends were off out trying to find someone to fix it and she was quickly growing bored. “remember when my dad built that tire-swing from the tree in my garden? and the second we both sat on it, it broke?” 

“Babe!” Ingrid collapsed in the other’s lap, twirling a juul between her fingers. “Jakey just said that he wanted to fuck me but I told him that you are the only one I want eating me out.” The party was in full swing and she was at a very comfortable level of drunk.

“I’m home,” Emilia calls out to her best friend. “It’s Friday night, are we going out again,” she asked, walking into the living room of their shared apartment. With classes done for the week, it seemed like a good idea for both of them to go out and have some fun. “We’ve been studying all week. We deserve a break, don’t you think?”

☆  -  not again. she couldn’t be making her way to her ex’s house when she just left a date. but she was. she was now inside an uber, looking out the window and sighing almost loud enough for the driver to hear it. even after having such a good time with someone naiyana actually thought was cool - which is hard - she was on her way to their place and all she wanted to do was hug them. could you blame the girl though? they were the only person naiyana had ever loved for real. she wasn’t the sentimental type of girl and yet her eyes watered every time someone mentioned their name. it was hard to let go. it was more than hard, it was literally impossible to her. but she also knew the two would never work and that broke her heart more than any other thing that had ever happened to her in her life. once she arrived, she paid the driver and got outside, eyes locked on the front door of the house she knew too damn well already. her stomach turned and naiyana had shaky hands as she lifted her arm and rang the doorbell. the girl knew she’d regret it the next morning - or maybe the next minute - but she needed that. she always did.

“don’t marry him,” he repeats, swallowing the bile that being so innately toxic seems to create. he should want his best friend to be happy and he does -- but he doubted she’d be happy with her current fiance, or maybe that was just wishful thinking. “u-unless you really want to, unless you have no doubts whatsoever, then...then forget i said anything.” laughter escapes his lips, but it’s awkward and anxious, rubbing his hand along the nape of his neck. “i just -- i needed to say something.” he nods, but there’s no confidence in the action. “i’m sorry.”
