A/N: established romantic relationship (well as romantic as u can get with some of these guys..) Takes place before the Warlord system was abolished. I had a hard time writing this without it sounding too ooc so if u have a different thought abt how some of these warlords would react pls comment and lemme know! I was gonna include Blackbeard but lowkey idek how he’s react I don’t understand him that well and I have free will to not write abt that lil hoe

Dracule Mihawk: Mihawk was approached by you initially before the two of you became involved with each other. Your abilities and admirable Haki gained you some respect from Mihawk. Particularly your fighting style was something that stood out to him, and he was interested to understand your potential more throughly.

Mihawk’s stoicism and general lack of public presence fit your needs well. Due to Mihawk’s perceptive nature, I’d wager he had suspicions that something happened between you and the World Government because of your obvious aversion to them. Though, lots of people don’t like the World Government, especially pirates so I don’t see him bringing it up unless he was too curious.

Assuming you keep the slave branding covered, Mihawk would only ever see it if you willingly present it to him. I don’t really think that the dynamic between you two will change once he knows. He would probably be more accommodating for you at Muggy Kingdom and understands your character better than he did previously. He himself has his own issues with the World Government and for his partner to be a victim of the conditions that they set up definitely increases his loathing of the world government.

Bartholomew Kuma: (small disclaimer I’m not too familiar with Kuma’s character either..) Kuma was probably hesitant to become involved with you due to his own enslavement to the World Government both previously and in terms of being a pacifista cyborg as well as being a revolutionary member. Though through small, private interactions over the course of numerous years the two of you had developed a bond.

Once Kuma put his trust in you and knew that while you were a Warlord and pirate; you were also a rare, good person, he was willing to risk confiding in you. He didn’t tell you everything, just a little bit about himself so you were aware of his mixed life. It prompted you to reveal your own checkered past and sorta showed him how similar people become after being affected by the World Government.

You had told him about your previous status as a slave. I feel like Kuma would be disheartened to hear about another’s enslavement, but he would also be able to empathize with you more than most anyone else in the world (as well as he can for a cyborg..) At most I feel like he can only offer you words and wouldn’t be able to take any action for you. Though his tender empathy, even at a distance, is comforting to you.

Donxuiquote Doflamingo: (literally the worst reaction you could ever hope for. I’m sorry but to me I feel like telling him this is the equivalent to saying that you have a D middle initial in your name. He WILL tweak I promise)

Your relationship with Doflamingo is akin to a give and take rather than an actual companionship. Though there might be what he thinks is love present on his side, it only ever harms you and even others at times. His love is more reflective of a child roughly playing with his favorite toy no matter how tattered it gets. You’re his favorite yes, but for how long? When will he notice the cracks in your paint coating? Or the chipped pieces of your frame?

He was attracted to your abilities and wanted to form an alliance. This alliance did benefit your crew, and granted you more political influence in the world. (Though, I feel like Doflamingo would try to make it physical between the two of you.)

Doflamingo figuring out that you were a former slave wasn’t intended by you. You had wanted to keep that a secret from him as long as you could. You didn’t know how he would react, but you didn’t think it would be good. And it wasn’t good, when he saw the burn seared into your back. The whole world stopped for a moment, nothing heard except your shaky breaths. I feel like this would go either two ways.

Doflamingo would be disgusted. He would feel cheated. How dare you be branded by something other than him, is what he would ask himself. He used to own slaves. He technically still does with his citizens of Dressrosa. He knows their lack of worth, their use to him and his mind would clash that version of inferiority with you instantly. To him, you were less than before but now you’re just a fake pretending to be human and pretending to be stronger than you really are. I feel like his reaction would be violent towards you and he would call off the progression of your alliance immediately.

The other way I see it going (and it’s kinda sick in my mind) is that Doflamingo would feel a new type of ownership over you. He used to authorize people to get that branding on your back. He’d feel like you were reminiscent of his past and his former birth right. I feel like he might try to coax you into becoming a slave for him under the pretense of sympathy and understanding. This would be him playing the long game, trying to break you down enough mentally for you to be dependent on him and he would be able to use you however he wanted. He would also use this information against you too, threatening to reveal it to the public or the government officials. Even worse, the celestial dragons so they could come and take you back.

Hancock Boa: (lowkey I feel like she’s incapable of falling for someone other than Luffy presently but we can ignore that) Boa would only ever try to pursuit a relationship if you had treated her the same way Luffy treated her. If you had shown her a lack of lust and instead genuine affection or kindness, she would be down so bad.

One big milestone in the development of your relationship with Boa was her revealing her own personal enslavement. She told you in desperation of a connection of trust and to try to prove that she wasn’t worthy of you. She was utterly shocked when you turned around and bared your own identical marking to her.

It would cause the two of you to have an intimate bond beyond anything sexual. You validated her and her sisters’ worth and existence. You also showed her that the mark didn’t have to be something to fear and that she could rely on you. I think she would fall in love with you like how she did with Luffy and would defy the World Government not just for herself and her empire anymore, but for you as well.

Jimbei: I feel like Jimbei would pursue someone with a clear moral scale and have ideals that align with him. (Though he’d probably prefer fishmen so like if you’re human he might not be looking at you like that..) You were an honorable pirate and someone that Jimbei was able to communicate with beyond Warlord meetings. The Sun Pirates would most likely notice the chances of an alliance forming between them and your crew given the praises Jimbei has given you.

It was on an island of neutral ground for the two of you, enjoying the isolation and conversing with one another when it happened. You told Jimbei of your previous enslavement and showed him your branding. It wasn’t really prompted, maybe you wished for Jimbei to talk of the important history of the Sun Pirates and Fisher Tiger. The slavery of fishmen was woven between the threads of the creation of the Sun Pirates. It was a safe space, Jimbei makes you feel safe, so once Jimbei was done talking, you opened up.

Jimbei would feel sympathy for your mark and your story. But he’s also someone who would be quick to acknowledge your strength to overcome it and persevere to the status of Warlord of your own pirate crew. Jimbei ran a hand over the mark softly before thinking of something. He offered to give you the Sun Pirates’ marking over it.

Trafalgar Law: Law wouldn’t be looking for a relationship until possibly after he is able to complete his goal of avenging Corazon by defeating Doflamingo. Plus you were a warlord with your own crew, so the trust he gave you was scarce if he gave you any at all.

Though, if he did align with your pirate crew and you helped him in his goal he’d have a considerable amount of trust and loyalty towards you for the duration of the alliance. Through this, the two of you gradually became a little closer to each other, divulging in stories of the past and history in the small free time you had. Though you weren’t together and neither of you would mention the kindles of what could perhaps be something more between the two of you.

One late night, you let it slip that you were a former slave. Law paused momentarily before acting unaffected. A silence fell over you two for a couple moments before he mentioned that you were free now. To which you responded with a smile. It wasn’t brought up again, and your alliance ended after the events of Dressrosa.

Gecko Moria: (guys I don’t like him) Hm. I feel like he would approach you first. Especially in his youth because he was more of a confident pirate before he faced off with Kaido. He had taken a liking to your appearance and your abilities were well suited for tasks in his opinion. I feel like he would propose an alliance with an ultimate goal of obtaining your power for his motives.

I thinks relationship with him would be another one based on mutual contentment, you scratch his big back, he scratches yours. Though, over time I think he would become loyal to you and care for you of his own will, not for the sake of the alliance.

He found out about your enslavement through one of his nosy underlings, maybe Perona. It would reason that you and her were at least acquaintances. I don’t think this would change much for Moria, though he might try to express sympathy for you. Perhaps he might bring it up in hopes you talk about your past to him so he can know more about you and what you’ve endured. He is caring to those who he considers family, and he would be willing to consider you that.

Crocodile: Crocodile was most likely approached by you. Though being the business man that he is, the only form of entanglement he would engage in would be through a mutual alliance of some sort.

Time may change the context of your alliance with him, and your relationship could grow into something that loosely resembles a carrying couple. Yet while Crocodile has his own secrets you aren’t privy to, he doesn’t enjoy you hiding ones from him, especially if it affects business.

You told him you would tell him a secret if he told you what happened to his hand. It was the amount of whiskey you had earlier in the evening talking, but Crocodile always became rather amused with your drunken ramblings. He made you go first.

He was rather surprised when you told him that you used to be a slave. You had covered your past so well. You were always dressed luxuriously, you surrounded yourself and your crew with powerful people, and you had this air of unassailable confidence that he always wanted to control. It just didn’t fit you, being a slave. When he asked about the marking, you replied that you got surgery to remove it and replace the skin graft of the area it was covering. He could tell you hated that part of your past, and hated the World Government and Celestial Dragons even more. You told him you would wring his neck if he publicized it. Puffing his cigar in your face, he mused before taking a deep sigh and told you about the story of his hand.

Kinda a long one, I really had to think abt this one but it was fun to write

The first thing that comes to my mind is that audio - “ I need to find my darling husband!” “What do you see in that guy?” “He makes me laugh.”

Law absolutely needs to be with someone who can make him laugh.

Throughout the post time skip arcs, it has been shown that Law -

Has a fear surrounding accepting and giving love

Believes that there must be a reason for earning love/giving love to someone

Law’s character had the most development in Dressrosa and Wano that could propel him towards healing with the defeat of Doflamingo, the revenge of Corazon’s death, and the closure statement that Sengoku says to him: “Don’t try to find a reason for someone’s love.”

Law has to heal first, or have a partner that will help him heal. To me, Law wouldn’t even think of committing to a relationship until the end of Dressrosa/Wano.

Law surrounds himself with goofy people, so it makes sense for him to fall for a goofy person.

This person would probably be on his crew as his trust issues wouldn’t allow for him falling for someone that has other loyalties that could easily be prioritized over him and end up betraying him.

Law is strict about subordinate dynamics, which is why you being on his crew may also hinder him from wanting to pursue something with you because he’s supposed to be your boss essentially.

Law would want someone that is smart, textbook smart like he is, but I also see this not being important if he truly runs into the ‘one’ that brings him the most peace.

I mean by that if you can’t hold and add to a conversation about idk the anatomy of the human body and the effects of a certain ailment, you’re not totally disqualified from his radar.

Someone who could hold emotional conversations with him is good. Even if he probably wouldn’t want the conversation. He’s kinda icky with feelings. Someone that could tell him how he feels, how they feel, and how that changes the context of whatever situation they are in. He needs someone like that.

I used to be opposed to the thought, but I believe Law needs someone truly soft. That means you could still fight if needed, but would rather not yk. It’s okay if you’re not out here swinging a machete trying to bloody the streets with your foes. That aspect of humanity that you have is something Law needs more prevalently in his life.

I remember reading an analysis of Law’s type and the creator said something similar to “Law needs someone who wouldn’t pull the trigger, just like Corazon didn’t.” I don’t know how much I agree with it but I think it’s worth mentioning.

Someone patient, but stubborn. Someone who is willing to wait for him to be ready to accept his feelings and won’t leave him when he makes a mistake (trust me he will make many mistakes in a relationship). Someone who also won’t be an idle figure in situations, you have an opinion and will voice it even if it doesn’t agree with Law’s perspective. You think the crew should help him on something rather than wait on the submarine and him go off alone? Tell him and make him listen, even if he shuts you down.

Law needs someone positive that can look at things with a glass half full mindset. Someone who looks at the rain and thinks about how the plants are getting water, someone who watches the snow fall but are commenting about how Penguin and Sachi are making snow angles and Bepo is really comfortable in the temperature. You even out his pessimism and bring light.

You’d have to get along with the other crew mates, especially Bepo too. Bepo is so important to Law, and if Bepo didn’t like you it already taints Law’s image of you.

After reading some of the Law Novel, preferably someone with a goal in life. It doesn’t have to be a huge driving factor that you live day by day by. It could be something small that fluctuates daily or weekly or wtv. Someone that can strive towards a goal they set for themselves and gets a glint of determination in their eye. But it’s also okay if you’re not like this because this won’t deter him fully if you aren’t a driven person.

You were always kind to him. Even before he invited you onto his crew, he identified your nature and could make a note about how you’re different from the majority of people he’s met.

Preferably, you’d be goofy, but not too loud. I feel like Law gets uncomfortable around those that are crazy extroverted- kinda like Luffy. Sometimes it reminds him too much of the Donquixote Pirates with all their flamboyance. That doesn’t mean if you have this quality you’d be off the list, he would just need it in smaller chunks or around the crew to be acclimated to it.

Grr, someone that ends up reminding him of Rosinante. Someone that Law knows is just a good person, regardless of their past.

If he asked you “why do you love me?” And you couldn’t give him an answer, you’re perfect.

He needs someone to be his safe space. Someone that could sit in his office while he works, content in the shared silence. Someone that he could ramble about his coin collection to without the worry of being judged. Someone that he could let touch his chest and have them run their fingers through his hair without worry that he’ll be harmed. Someone that will soothe him after he has a nightmare or read out loud to him until he falls asleep.

Someone that cares for him- this loops back to the stubbornness. Someone that tries to make him go to sleep, to make him eat, to make him take breaks from working. To make him live happily, something that he’s starved himself of truly ever since he was 10. He prolly won’t act like it, but you showing you care for him makes his heart bleed suffocatingly.

Someone that can show him how to love again and what it feels like to love again omg. The destruction of Flevance and the manipulation of the Donquixote Pirates so cruelly changed his perception of love.

Law wouldn’t want you to be a big shot in canon. If your bounty was rather substantial compared to his crew and him, or you had a crazy ability- it would make him worry awfully. He’d probably try to keep you out of harms way even more than he does with the rest of his crew.

Someone he can tell everything to and trust that they’ll keep it a secret.

Someone that likes the cold, likes the ocean. Living on a submarine as a pirate kinda requires this lol.

Omg imagine you’re from the North Blue too. He picks you up around the same time he does Penguin, Sachi, and Bepo. You’re one of the original members. The connection I feel like he would have with you would make him more willing to fall for you…

I feel like Law would like someone with longer hair. If he could watch them brush it, curl it around his finger, watch them create a hairstyle for the day. Small acts of domesticity in life.

Someone with large, doe eyes. He can see so much emotion through them, they hold so much weight. It reminds him of Bepo. (lol)

Someone aware of their own emotions and are in tune with their wants and needs.

I feel like he would fluster really easily if you had a gummy smile. Yk those big, pure smiles where the gums showed. When your eyes crinkly and your teeth are bared so naturally and without malice. It’s so beautiful to see.

Zoro is a watcher. He’s always observing. Even when his eyes are closed and he’s feigning disinterest, he’s hearing all that’s happening and feeling the shift in the atmosphere.

He watched you when you first joined the crew. He noticed the way you clasped your hands together in your lap with practiced class. He took note of how your shoulders still carried tension when Sanji would serve you a beverage. He was aware of the alert look in your eye, the way they would linger when you were interested in Nami’s ‘Map of the World’ in progress.

When you first kissed him, he was watching. He had just woken up from the events of Thriller Bark. Everything hurt. The bandages that adorned his body were the only thing that separated his skin from your head that was resting on his stomach. Zoro picked his head up to identify the weight on top of him. His eyes had barely adjusted to the brightness of the world before the focused on you. You were still asleep. He laid his head back down.

How long had you been there? You were in different clothes than the ones he last saw you in. The ones that were ripped to shreds and stained with your blood. You had your fair share of bandages as well. The bridge of your nose had a band aid on it. The shoulder closest to him was wrapped securely, no doubt Chopper’s work.

He hadn’t been near you until the end of the Thriller Bark excursion, what with him having his shadow taken- he was considerably busy. When was the last time he saw you? It was just before Kuma appeared in front of the crew, you were the first crew mate he ran into. No. It was after nothing had happened. You were leaning against the cook. Through the blood covering his face and the blur of his eyesight he could barely distinguish the look of concern across the pair of faces in front of him before he fainted.

When he craned his neck to look at you again, Zoro was met with your eyes. You gasped, lifting your head from his abdomen to hover over him.

“Zoro?” It barely came out as a whisper. He grunted.

“Where’s everyone?” His voice was gruff and hoarse with disuse. It hurt to talk.

“They’re getting ready to leave soon. Franky and Usopp are making a memorial for Brooke’s old crew right now. He joined the crew by the way,” You muttered. Zoro wasn’t surprised.

“We were waiting for you to wake up. Chopper stepped away to have lunch but he’ll be here in a couple minutes.” You added. Zoro took a deep breath and closed his eyes again.

His skin began to crawl. “I can feel you staring at me.” He popped his right eye open to meet your gaze. “How long have I been asleep?” He didn’t want to know.

“This makes the third day.”

“That’s too long.” He murmured before making an effort to sit up. Your shoulders tensed from their relaxed position fiercely as you placed your hands on his chest to halt his movement. He looked at you again. Your concern was written in the creases of your brows.

“No. You aren’t going anywhere until Chopper gets back.” Your voice was firm, but there was something else lilting the edge of your tone.

Regardless, he dropped it and laid back down. His body was too stiff to be able to muscle you out of the way to get up. You kept one of your hands on his chest, the other going to rest on your knee and you sat in your shins next to his bed. You were still tensed, but the unfocused gaze on your face signaled that you were in deep thought.

Zoro huffed. You looked at him again, understanding what his golden eyes were asking you.

“What happened to you? How are you still alive?” There was a crack in your voice. Zoro blinked. The pain in his body spiked for a moment as he made a grunt. How was he alive?

“Nothing happened. It doesn’t matter.”

“I thought you were going to die. That you would be lost, forever!” You snapped, more sorrow than anger clipping your voice. Zoro maintained eye contact. Big, round eyes that conveyed so much emotion stared back at him. There was a vulnerability that Zoro almost didn’t want to be exposed to within your eyes. Almost. The intensity of your gaze reminded him of a doe.

“Lost?” He echoed.

“It doesn’t matter?” You echoed back.

Silence filled the room. Zoro sighed. The ache in his body ebbed just a tad. You dug your nails into his chest ever so slightly before releasing the tension in your body, sighing as well.

The soft clap of hooves could be heard down the hall. You look to the distance, then back at Zoro. Slowly, you lean down. At first he thought you were going to whisper something, but the press of your lips he felt against his forehead proved him wrong. Zoro set his jaw at the touch. It was soft, kind, unexpected. You pulled back.

“You’re lucky you’re awake now. There’s still some booze from the party left for you.”

You pushed up to your feet as Chopper entered Zoro’s vision. He watched your figure, drowning out Chopper’s questions about the redness in his face until he couldn’t see you any longer.

Mihawk would like someone that matches his dark and aloof aura

Mihawk is rather disengaged and bored of just about everything in life, but his lover is the one thing that he is engrossed by. I’m talking obsession, like a couple that’s too in love with each other that no one else is in the room with them.

Mihawk would be drawn to something with intense, dark features like darker hair and eyes. Sucker for lipstick, any shade of red. Black lipstick is one of his favorites too.

Mihawk would need to be with someone that can hold their own. His partner needs to be able to fight and be strong enough to defend themselves in a majority of scenarios.

Mihawk lives for thrill whether he admits it or not. His partner and him in a wild love chase *chef’s kiss*. Someone who can match his ‘cat and mouse’ energy and be frisky with him. Someone that likes to mess around with him and ignite their relationship. Be that some caresses then a smooth exit out the door or challenging him to something, he’s following you as soon as you’re out of his sight.

Mihawk would love long length dresses. Something that screams regality and empowers his lover and makes them look beautiful.

I see Mihawk as being a sucker for teasing. Your gown has a deep v neck and your cleavage is exposed perfectly? He’s looking. There’s a thigh split in your skirt or dress? He’s looking. Your corset hugs your waist and accentuates your hips. He’s looking and feeling you up. Whisper something in his ear, give him a long moment of intense eye contact, rub your hand along his chest then exit the room. He loves loves loves it!! He loves it all I cannot stress enough he’s transfixed by his lover for life.

Mihawk most likely wouldn’t want someone clingy, but someone obsessed with him. There’s a fine line and it’s easy it blur it. Whining about how he’s been gone from Muggy Kingdom and made you feel kinda lonely might come across as irritating if he heard it too many times. Someone who could keep themselves busy until he returns and grab him by his coat collar and tell him that he spent too much time away from the island is more enticing to him and makes him just as obsessed as his lover. (I really hope that made sense)

Mihawk likes someone that can banter with him too. Someone that can flirt with him whether it’s just them in the room or a whole navy fleet. Someone bold and confident in themselves, that loves themselves maybe a bit too much.

(Literally just imagine a scene with you and Mihawk exchanging flirtatious eye contact while fending off against marines and yall end up right next to each other and just as the last marina drops he grabs ahold of you and whispers another love confession against your lips omfg..)

Mihawk would want someone that is well rounded. Someone who knows the way the world works and has a good brain underneath all their beauty. Someone cunning enough to scam a poor barkeeper out of their berri but compassionate enough to feed the stray cats of the town. Someone that can hold a conversation with him of the best wines or whiskey and defend their favorites against his own.

Someone with manners. Mihawk appreciates couth people that talk with an air of knowledge and slyness and can read through the lines of marine propaganda. Mihawk needs some romance in his relationship, there must be love and trust, not just looks and lust.

Mihawk would pour his whole being into a relationship and needs that to be reciprocated. While he might be nonchalant, he can still be dedicated. People may know of his lover, they may not. He doesn’t really speak upon it but won’t deny it if someone were to bring it up.

Someone that was also a pirate would suit Mihawk. They can handle being away from him for long periods of a time, they can defend themselves and have connections to powerful people (shanks imagine you knew shanks outside of Mihawk’s rivalry with him). He would never entangle with a marine, he has a strong hatred for them because of his past. A civilian that hasn’t led a tumultuous life wouldn’t be best prepared for whatever hardships may come Mihawk and his love’s way.

Someone who knows how to dance!!! Oml imagine dancing with Mihawk and not js white girl dancing I’m talking duo romantic dances. Theres romance, there’s sexual tension, there’s a bond that flows between y’all’s bodies.

Someone with desire in them. Lemme explain, someone that can go a couple months without his help sexually, but craves him so bad when they finally reunite they can have a passionate session once alone. Someone to match his romantic freakiness.

Mihawk would want his partner to have a healthy relationship with sex. Sex is an act of devotion, and whether him and his love engage it 0 or 3 times a day, he wants both of them to enjoy it to the fullest.

Mihawk would prolly want his lover to be morally grey. If he kills someone and you get mad at him for it, yall won’t work out. There are exceptions to this, and he can easily change his ways if that’s what his lover coaxed him to do though. But if he retells how he hunted down Don Kreig’s whole pirate fleet because they awoke him from his nap, he can’t have you try to slap him and give him a lecture on how he’s a heartless murderer (bc he is a heartless murderer).

Mihawk is loyal, and it’s a given he would expect that back. No matter how long yall are apart, no one else should satisfy you in the ways a lover should because trust ain’t no one doing that for him.

Someone who loves food, he’s quite a good cook and frequents the Baratie. The Baratie is well accustomed to serving the two of you on your monthly date (oml I should write a blurb abt Sanji tryna make moves on you while Mihawk watches in amusement looking all smitten or smth lmao).

Mihawk would prefer his lover to have a calm rationale. If his lover starts freaking out and screaming over something inconvenient or starts harsh arguments over miscommunications the relationship is doomed to fail.

Someone that is a gossip lol. Read the news and try to theorize why Alabasta was featured twice and the first time it mentioned the Warlord Crocodile’s casino having a river around it bc it’s Alabasta and it hasn’t been raining there in months apparently. Some fun stuff like that haha.

Yeah I definitely do think that Sanji could develop romantic feelings for her

I think Sanji could find love for just about anybody- tho men is still questionable for understandable reasons

In my opinion it’s also better for him/their relationship too because it would form more from an intentional and organic origin

Post-timeskip though I do feel like he’d end up saying something a little offensive based on her appearance because of how consistent the change of his ‘chivalry’ towards women has been.

Ya know what I mean? He’s a little less accepting but I blame this on poor writing and try not to include it in his character

I think it would take some type of conflict to actually progress their relationship where Sanji could just go “damn she really, really cares about me…” and he could start crushing on her because of that yk

Maybe an incident where she saves him, defends him over something, or one of those times where he takes in her beauty either thru a calm moment on the ship or like maybe she dresses up for something and all of her scars and differences makes her even that much more beautiful maybe

For some reason Kidd’s character as a whole is so much more attractive and actually compels you to wonder about him pre timeskip when we see him in sabaody imo (this applies to his whole crew, actually to me)

Some similarities are his temper, his obvious devotion to his crew and killer, his headstrong goal of finding the one piece, and his combat style(mostly). Which are great, these are things that make Kidd, Kidd.

BUTTT -There’s also some features his character picked up post timeskip that COMPLETELY change him.

Personality -

(This is the most notable one imo)

Pre timeskip: yes, he has a temper and does what he wants/shows the audience he has some screws loose with his unpredictable behavior, but he was largely more silent about it.

From recollection, when he and some crew mates were dining at a restaurant in Sabaody, he noticed Apoo was staring at him. Then the next scene we cut to is the side of the building exploding and Apoo jumping away, loudly scolding Kidd for picking a fight with him here instead of waiting until after they crossed the red line (which implies that most of the supernova crews present looked at sabaody as a sort of safe zone which is interesting)

Kidd just says something like “oh I don’t like your face, you’re ugly and you have a staring problem.” He was calm when he said this, he wasn’t screaming.

He continues this more suave persona into the slave auction house, gossiping about Law to his comrades just feet away from the other captain. Again showing he doesn’t care about other’s opinions/how they interpret his actions, but he’s not being loud and boastful about it.

When fighting side by side with Law and Luffy the first time outside the slave auction house, he has fun and is enjoying the fight. When Luffy mentions the one piece, he becomes serious and drops some info about his perspective and how serious he is about finding the one piece.

Throughout all of this stuff he wasn’t ever screaming or accidentally downplaying his strategic mindset/intellect.

He is so very much an onion with multiple layers pre timeskip and that aura of composure he had attributed so much to that. He came off as more dangerous and alluring bc he wasn’t blindly screaming every five seconds to everyone he talked to. You could tell there’s levels to his emotions and he obviously has an understanding and can process different situations and concepts based on how ‘grown up’ he felt pre timeskip.

You could tell there’s a reason he doesn’t care about others opinions, a reason he is quick to violence (even if it isn’t loud, aggressive violence), a reason the one piece is so dear to him bc he took it so seriously, obvious closeness with his crew to talk to them the way he does, a reason he and his crew dress the way they do and how that affects how they carry themselves daily. So many things

Kidd pre timeskip is so enticing to think about #cries

Post timeskip: yes Kidd has a temper, and does what he wants, and shows he doesn’t care about others opinions, but he does it in a different way than the did on Sabaody.

Kidd is more visibly frustrated, and vocal and loud post timeskip. We see this from the get go when he attempts to form and alliance with Hawkins and Apoo when he gets mad at their behavior and calls off the alliance, asserting that he was going to kill the immediately instead.

Then in Wano, he’s even worse. He yells at everyone all the time. Just about every scene he has he is filled with so much more emotion, mainly hostile, active, angry/passionate emotion. (Which isn’t a bad thing, it’s just different)

And because of this, it diminishes his nuance to me personally. He had multiple intimate moments with Killer that affected him to the point of tears, yet it was hardly shown in his voice and expression at all because he had already been a screeching, hoarse banshee since his introduction in Udon. I can’t help but feel like the moment wasn’t as impactful as it was to him for the audience because of this.

This change made him much more of a flat character, even though he had more development and lore dropped post timeskip. He mostly came across as this abrasive, temperamental, dumb jock.

And the dumb aspect is where I have the most issue with it. He is an intelligent person and he is a charismatic person. He had to have been for a lot of his life to do the things he’s done: unite three gangs under him on his home island, over throw a more dominant gang, set out to sea, enter the grand line, enter the new world, challenge shanks, steal poneglyphs from big mom (was it a poneglyph?), challenge Kaido, take down big mom, and challenge red hair shanks again. Dude has a resume.

But it’s so overlooked because of his behavior!! He gets called ‘useless captain midd’ because “he had to have known he wouldn’t defeat shanks he’s stupid for trying” but his reasonings for trying and understanding of the situation is totally lost on the audience because it isn’t conveyed well enough in general, but even more so because all you see of Kidd is him getting mad and screaming.

His scene when shanks defeats him and he’s imagining his victory on the Victoria Punk talking to Killer behind him (disclaimer haven’t seen it in a while). This scene read different to me than I think it should have. You could tell that Kidd was thinking hard, then he talks about his victory and how no one can stop them and how they’ll find the one piece. Then it pans to him seeing Killer hurt and he’s brought back to the present.

This scene could have shown his original desperation and dedication to find the one piece (because we still don’t know why he’s after it). Shown how much it emotionally tugs at him, but it doesn’t, not to the fullest extent. You see that he cares for the ship, and he cares for killer, but you’re not left with a resounding conclusion imo. Like yes he’s in deep thought, but it’s only about his victory and how his crew is on top? It’s not reminiscent of those he lost along the way, not how his ship is his home, his reasoning for wanting the one piece, what it meant to him and his crew, now how finding it will change things for them?

There was so much that could’ve been discussed if only the dialogue was different, or if he was calmer more in general it could’ve been easier to discern what he was actually thinking. Because you could peel the onion’s layers, not have to smash the tomato to get the seeds. (If that makes sense). The flatness of his behavior makes it harder to connect with his motives.

His reliance on Killer

Pre timeskip: there isn’t much to go off pre timeskip, but a scene in sabaody that is worth pointing out is after Luffy mentions one piece. A marine charges Kidd; and Killer comes out of no where to take care of him .

Killer doing that showed he generally is watching over Kidd, especially in battles but this could be applicable to ordinary, daily stuffs too. Killer’s reprimand shows that this type of stuff might be common too since he was exasperated with Kidd.

This tells you that their dynamic is the captain that is impulsive with complex behaviors and thoughts and the right hand man that understands this and adjusts accordingly with the care of his captain in mind.

It doesn’t hint to there being a mental struggle or worry in the sense of Kidd can take care of himself and Killer understands this. It doesn’t hint to Kidd being a lazy captain or that there are certain things he can’t do so Killer does them. If that makes sense, there is dependency but it isn’t a crutch.

Post timeskip: post timeskip we learn Killer generally understands how the new world works better and often elaborates to Kidd.

There isn’t anything wrong with that, it just adds to their dynamic. But it might not be the best stereotypical dynamic with this new addition. This new addition brings in the brains, which wasn’t much explored pre timeskip.

The dynamic post timeskip could easily read as follows: the captain with a temper that makes impulsive decisions based on his emotional regulation or lack there of, and his right hand man who adjusts accordingly and feeds information into his captain.

It’s more complex than this, but it is just so easy to boil them down to this post timeskip. Which it shouldn’t be, because they have nuance! It’s shown in how they care, how they have so much loyalty; and how they interact with each other.

But it’s just so much easier for all this to be lost based on the characterization of Kidd post timeskip.

There are some in world explanations for this of course which are appropriate to acknowledge.

• Kidd is under immense pressure and stress post timeskip when we meet him (captured, crew missing, killer’s condition, the betrayal of Apoo, etc)

• Kidd is battling more serious opponents post timeskip as opposed to pre timeskip sabaody (explains the differences in his fighting behavior/the screaming and aggression aspect)

And all of this affects the fandom’s characterization of himself and Killer’s role around him. Which since there isn’t a ton of info on the topic obviously it will be different than the canon but it’s still worth pointing out.

When you read about Kidd he is often harsh, rude, and so angry at everyone when he’s interacting with them. Which more aligns with what we see in Wano. But since Wano was such a period of negativity for him and and his crew it feels wrong for all of his manners to come from that in fanon when you could lean into his pre timeskip behavior back when he was calmer and had more freedom of expression in a way.

He would be much more fluid and you could see depth in him when reading fics if you don’t just base him off of post timeskip behaviors imo. It would be easier to see his emotional depth and his complex thinking, though there is a fine line to tip toe when it comes to ooc actions, especially if the character is rather flex behavior wise. Which uhhh if only he acted like that in post timeskip bro

But this also affects the way Killer appears in these fics. You often see or hear about Killer doing a lot of the organizing and planning among the crew instead of Kid. Which as his right hand man you could expect this, but it largely takes Kidd out of the scenario entirely. Which strikes me as a bit odd and I think it fully comes from Kidd looking dumb and unaware of the complexities of the new world (even if he isn’t) post timeskip while Killer is shown to have a deeper understanding of these things.

If anything I’d think that Kidd would make orders and you’d see Killer be one of the first to follow them out, it be more mutual based on the seriousness of what it is, or it being understood in the fic that Killer is acting in Kidd’s stead when making decisions. If that makes sense?

Roronoa Zoro Thoughts: Emotional Intelligence and Ability To Date

Okay so ima explain my understanding of Zoro’s character and his possibility of being romantically involved with another person and then my thoughts on Zoro’s popular ships.

To me, Zoro is a physical representation of a protector, a predator, and loyalty (and death but that’s not fully realized). He prioritizes the safety of the people important to him, burdens himself to evolve into a stronger swordsman for the people close to him, and sees more value in actions rather than words.

He used to be someone that was living for himself, until Kuina. Then he was living for his shared promise to become the greatest swordsman, until Luffy. Until Thriller Bark, Sabaody, and his exile in Muggy Kingdom. Now he lives for his crew, to ensure Luffy’s dream and through Luffy achieving his dream Zoro will achieve his own (plus him actually having another duel with Mihawk). Yk what I’m saying? He still has a goal, but it has changed to encompass the Strawhats as a whole with a special bond towards Luffy.

There’s this tiktok editing account called ._avxmvx_ and they have such good edits that I feel like speak for Zoro’s character- just a side note hehe

Okay guys, me personally, I don’t see Zoro being interested in dating. It’s not anywhere near the top of his list in canon. Plus he’s sort of the newest addition to the characters that embody death in One Piece and he has that whole ‘walking Asura’s path’ thing going on.

Although I do like reading about/the dynamic of Zoro with a person that is either the representation of a higher being (ie, Luffy being the god Nika through his devil fruit yk smth like that) or of things associated with gods (example being person with relations/undertones of say wine, grapes, floral, earthy colors, with a personality summed up in a few words as indulgent, capricious, joyous, and fiendish because all of these things are alluded to the Greek god Dionysus.)

Zoro being paired with someone with religious and spiritual energy and ties is something I personally enjoy because Zoro is a character that is morally grey, has no belief in a higher being, has accepted damning himself for the sake of others, and actually has in canon relationships that have religious implications (guys Luffy and Zoro trust me bro)

I like dynamics like those paired with Zoro because I think it’s something that challenges his way of viewing the world when he’s surrounded by someone that encompasses a higher influence that’s not attainable by people but it’s not forcing him change yk??

Zoro is also a character with a stunted emotional understanding and capacity for empathy in my opinion.

I say this because of his parent’s death at an early age, a heavy training focused childhood, the death of his only close friend, and the isolation of his teenage years when he left Shimotsuki village up until he met Luffy.

This isn’t to say that he doesn’t feel emotion and can’t joke around (pre time skip funny Zoro come back to me pls) but overall I think it’s easier for Zoro to not engage with others on a highly emotional level and in emotional situations Zoro is most comfortable looking at things rationally as best he can without adding subjectiveness onto the situation (think Water 7, his opposition to Usopp rejoining the crew without properly apologizing and atoning.)

Zoro also actively tries to squash his feelings imo which is kinda sad. (Think how in drum island he tells himself to squash instincts and so now he’s not shown to be cold even in punk hazard and the beginning of egghead he was just toughening it out.)I think he does this because his mind associates the best swordsman with strength and not being influenced by your surrounding.

Which is why I think Mihawk is the reason for his stoicism post timeskip.

Now, this relates back to his ability to be with someone romantically because it probably wouldn’t be easy for him to. Especially not emotionally. It probably would be uncharted territory for him and if he wanted it his partner would have to work with him and teach him and build up his ability to understand others emotions and the ability to sympathize/empathize.

Now, gender wise, I actually can’t give you a clear answer on what I think Zoro’s preference would be. I feel like Zoro’s preference is more of a scale that looks at character traits and actions rather than identity and appearance.

In all honesty, I could see Zoro having an easier time becoming involved with a man rather than a woman. I don’t have much reasoning for it though, it’s just a feeling.

Perhaps his comfortability in his masculinity? Maybe because of how obviously dense he is when it comes to women? Maybe his past relationships of Saga and Kuina? Idk

So, in canon Zoro being in a relationship is a no go imo. (Edit: asexual man) Now let’s discuss my thoughts on Zoro’s popular ships.

I don’t ship Zoro with anyone, however I do appreciate the dynamics of some of his ships because I view them as something deeper than romance.

To me, a lot of Zoro’s ships are understood as a soulmate- you feel right in my life and I want to be around you type of way I’ll protect you no matter how bloody the future is- not a -I really like you I wanna kiss you and have sex with you and you can talk to me all about your feelings about the world- type of way

Not saying that the ladder can’t or isn’t presented in fandom media, it is just something that I don’t prioritize seeing in Zoro ships.

Zoro x Luffy: I appreciate Zoro x Luffy again in a more subservient dynamic.

(Omg I saw a post like a year ago saying smth about how Zoro is Luffy’s in a way none of the other strawhats are because he hasn’t ever betrayed or left the crew and out of the romance dawn crew he’s the only one that hasn’t done so ugh I wish I could find the creator I’d love to tag them)

I like exploration on how devoted Zoro is to Luffy and I do think that they have a bond that is deeper than just friends or captain and first mate.

But I wouldn’t call it romantic or sexual. It is natural, it is inherent and instinctual, it is almost religious imo

I also don’t think that Luffy is interested in dating.

Because of this, I do think that the ship works in certain ways. (u understand what I’m saying?)

Zoro x Sanji: I feel like this has potential as a ship but there’s things that need to happen before yk.

First, Sanji needs to acknowledge and heal through his trauma. Of his childhood, guilt, body, Germa, and especially his relationship/perspective of men, masculinity, and women.

I think Zoro could help him through it, if they ever talked about it. But I doubt they would. At least not explicitly. Maybe roundabout but something so minimal the implications could be lost easily on either of them.

But Zoro’s lack of emotional understanding is also called into play here. This is something that Sanji is very good at. He’s emotionally aware and attune to those around him. They are opposites in this way. But pairing them together isn’t good imo in a ship way. Yk?

I like the ship dynamic in how they complete each other in different ways. I read a post before about Zoro’s association with the number three and Sanji’s representation of the number three. Sanji’s humanity compared with Zoro’s brutalism or strength. They are strong in different ways. They are vital to the crew in different ways.

They work as a duo more than a ship to me though. I don’t see them romantic, I don’t see them sexual, but I do see them as sort of kindred flames or something of soulmates.

They belong in each other’s world and they do need each other but they won’t admit it. Yk?

Zoro x Robin: guys no.

I’m sorry but I just don’t support this ship at allllllll.

I do understand the evidence that Zorobin shippers bring up. They are alike, they do have a good dynamic, they respect each other, they are vital to the crew, but it’s just mid.

I feel like I don’t like it that much because regardless of Zoro’s loyalty to Robin as shown, Zoro doesn’t really interact with her fondly. Yk? Like I don’t remember seeing them just kinda chit chat for a second. There’s always something that is the catalyst for them to interact as far as I understand.

I also don’t think that Zoro is the best significant other for Robin. He isn’t what Robin would want nor need.

I say this due to his emotional intelligence, his aloof personality overall, and his dedication to training. I also say this because of Robin’s intellectualism, childhood experience, and personality. I feel like Franky is just so much better for her (sorry guys rip Frobin from my dead body.)

Zoro x Tashigi: I do not see this as a ship. I don’t like it particularly as a ship either.

I liked Tashigi and Zoro’s first dynamic when they first interacted with each other in Loguetown when Tashigi and Smoker were originally introduced.

The way that Tashigi was a female swordsman that looked just like Kuina, Zoro’s dead friend. The way that this made Zoro uncomfortable and he couldn’t handle it.

I loved it. I thought it was so interesting for Zoro’s character. I wish they kept it in post timeskip because it would’ve changed their behavior (or at least Zoro’s) towards each other in Punk Hazard.

I feel like this also ties into Zoro’s emotional capacity as well because he understands why he’s uncomfortable but he doesn’t try to change it- he only ever tries to run from her and increase their distance.

So, I don’t see nor support this as a ship, but I liked it a lot when Zoro was uncomfortable around Tashigi.

Zoro x Kuina: I do not view this as a ship either.

I think that Kuina was best as Zoro’s friend and the added complexity of romantic feelings at such a young age plus her death is just a lot. It’s a lot for Zoro.

I also don’t feel like it suits Zoro either. Loving her like that would better suit and origin story for Sanji ykwim?

Plus I like how Kuina was his goal and it intentionally wasn’t romantic. I liked the friendly deep connection between two swordsman.

I also don’t think that Kuina would have viewed Zoro like that even if she properly grew up.

Zoro x Hiyori: Hmmmmmmmm.

I kinda have mixed feelings about this one.

At first I didn’t like it. I didn’t understand why Hiyori liked Zoro and to be honest I still don’t.

The only reason I really see is because he wasn’t attracted to her and protected her physically. Plus he’s a strong swordsman like her father.

I actually really really like Hiyori’s character, but I feel like it might’ve been a mistake to add her feelings towards Zoro into Wano by Oda. But I do really like how she didn’t necessarily act on it. Sure, she had some damsel in distress moments and did flirt with him, but she kept her priorities straight and helped free Wano.

I really respect her for that. I wish that more female characters were done properly like her.

Zoro also clearly showed no interest towards her. The most he cared for in relation to her in my opinion was her father, Oden, her brother, Momonosuke, and the blade Enma.

Zoro also wouldn’t be willing to have feelings for her. She isn’t a part of the Strawhats and has no future with them. She isn’t hugely impactful towards the Strawhats as a whole. His loyalty wouldn’t ever be able to be in two places at once like it would be if he loved her yk??

I like Hiyori, I like Zoro, but I don’t like them together

So. The ship is okay I guess. I don’t ship it and I don’t support it however. I also don’t ever see it happening in canon. I also think Hiyori wouldn’t like Zoro if she really got to know him and would be better with a different person.

Trafalgar D. Water Law; Boy or Girl SO Preference?

If you look at Flevance, they resemble a typical small Christian community, even if it isn’t explicitly stated. There were religious crosses, nuns, churches. There was most definitely a theme in Flevance’s religion about hope and the good in others, as the nun that Law sees says smth like, “There’s always a hand to help you.”

Flevance also had a high status of wealth (the whole diamond scheme) and the average cost of living/luxury of the average person was reasonably high. There vastly majority of the couple in Flevance were also probably traditionally monogamous, with one man and one woman.

I think if Law had grown up in Flevance his romantic interests would solely be focused on a female partner bc that would be the socially acceptable way and he wouldn’t view males in the perspective of a potential suitor. (Idk if this is recent interpretations of the Bible or not but it’s realistic to say that there would be stigmatism surrounding same sex couples in Flevance as most traditional believers of Christianity view same sex romantic relationships as ‘wrong ish’. At least where I live..)

However, the destruction of Flevance brought change to Law’s character and perception of love. Because of this and his loss of faith from this experience, I think adult pirate Law would be more willing to engage in a same sex relationship. (Would actually be a good writing moment made by Oda if it did happen imo but I digress)

I don’t ship LawLu, but I think Luffy is a real example of the type of person that could help Law heal and has aspects of what Law would need in a relationship. LawLu is good on a companionship/spiritual level imo but sexually/potentially romantically I do not see it at all being reciprocated by either Law or Luffy.

Just the fact someone like Luffy exists that had met Law is a good argument for Law being with a male, just not Luffy specifically.

Law’s significant other to me represents stability, safety, and humanity. This can manifest in people differently though so I don’t see him looking for something based on physicality.

Because of that I don’t see Law in canon having a preference between boy or girl for a partner. Perhaps a leaning towards female because that’s the traditional way of his hometown and in the One Piece world it seems like.

He’d need someone emotionally before he’d need them sexually imo, so if he found someone that worked for him and he was ready, that’s it no matter the gender.

Sexually he would probably be more attracted to females, and a lot of times sexual tension is mistaken for romantic tension but I don’t see Law acting upon either.

Hate to leave this discussion without giving u a definite answer anon but I just don’t think there is a definite answer yk.

My personal preference tho is him with a female because I see him falling for someone with a strong maternal presence. Yk little instincts and gestures they do towards him and the crew that sometimes make them sigh ‘okay mom’ while drawing out the ‘o’ in mom. Someone that reminds him of the feeling of safety and peace he felt as a kid in Flevance where his body wasn’t so tense all the time.
